Roly – In foster – North East

Roly’s Journey: From Neglect to Love,

Let us extend our warmest embrace to Roly, the newest member of our GBSR family. Despite his grubby appearance, Roly possesses a heart of gold. His story began when his previous owner reached out, unable to care for him any longer. Originally meant to be a temporary home, Roly’s stay took an unexpected turn when the family preparing for him chose to bring home a puppy instead. The owner unknowing what she had taken on, had very little understanding of the breed and their needs, sadly this led to his condition, but it was in no way purposeful neglect.

Here’s what you need to know about Roly:

Age and Loyalty: Roly is a 4-year-old entire male, faithfully by his owner’s side for 16 months.

When our admin team spoke with her, she revealed that Roly’s sight was failing due to dry eye. She had been caring for his dry eye using saltwater, following advice from the previous owner. However, this makeshift remedy had gone on for at least 16 months, leaving Roly in great discomfort. Shockingly, he hadn’t seen a vet during this time.

Roly was in poor condition dirty and his eye concerned us a great deal, so we managed to get him an urgent appointment and had him seen straight away yesterday evening. And poor Roly is a very unhappy and uncomfortable little boy.

We knew we had to act swiftly. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to Jill Mitcheson and her partner, who embarked on a 5-hour round trip to collect Roly and rushing him straight to our vets. We are so grateful you must have been exhausted.

Health Diagnosis:

Dry Eye: His left eye suffered from dryness.

Lipid Deposit: His right eye harboured a lipid deposit.

Ear Troubles: A bilateral ear infection caused him immense distress.

Paw Pain: Pyodermatitis in his paws made walking painful.

Roly now finds comfort in foster care with Jill and her family in the North East. He’s been bathed, pampered, and treated. Roly revels in the attention and affection, settling in beautifully.

The evening brought some stress; he paced and panted for about 10 minutes. But soon, exhaustion led him to peaceful slumber.

Let’s surround Roly with love and healing as he embarks on this journey from neglect to recovery.
