Hazel – Now Adopted

Dogs name: Hazel

Age: 6 years old.

Current location: Thatcham, Berkshire.

I CAN LIVE WITH

Children: Yes, dog savvy children.

Cats: No.

Dogs: Yes, laid-back and playful dogs. No entire males.

A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Hazel is a bright and bubbly little girl.

Hazel adores her humans, will shower them with love and affection and thrives in their company.

She will keep her family entertained with her playful and cheeky personality.

Behaviour:

Hazel does not like cats and will give chase.

Hazel will bark for your attention.

Hazel is bouncy and will jump up, for food and toys. She is responding very well to training, but this will need to be continued in her new home.

Hazel loves a squeaky ball and will turn most attention into a game.

Hazel hasn’t a malicious bone in her body, everything is exciting for her.

Needs:

Hazel needs a calm but active family environment, one that will take her for multiple walks a day and actively continue her training. The training and interaction will strengthen the bond between Hazel and her family.

A garden is a must for Hazel and her playful nature.

Hazel will benefit from and laid-back playful dog in the home to keep her company, when her family is away.

Walk/exercise:

Hazel loves her walks; Hazel walks well on her own but can pull on the lead at times. We would recommend continued training.

Hazel is happy to meet unfamiliar dogs whilst out and loves the attention from anyone happy to greet her.

Hazel has 3 walks a day.

Toilet trained:

Yes, Hazel is a good girl.

Travel:

Hazel loves a road trip; she does need to be restrained, or she will move about the car. Once restrained she will settle down to sleep.

Because of this we will accept applications of up to 4 hours away from her current location.

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

Things to be aware of:

Hazel came into season whilst in foster so will be adopted on a “to be spayed” contract. Hazel will be recalled in December 2024 to be spayed at a vet of the charities choosing costs covered by the charity.

Hazel will not be rehomed with any entire males.

Sometimes Hazel is excited to play but doesn’t realise her size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as she has the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Additional information:

Hazel had a terrible life before coming to GBSR, so it is important that her family understands her history. She has thrived incredibly in foster and proven just why we adore this breed as she has not let the cruelty break her beautiful spirit.

Hazel has been an absolute delight to have in foster and deserves the most incredible happy ever after.

Hazel’s adoption donation fee is £400 and will need to be paid in full prior to her going home which will also be subject to a home check.

**Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. A little of Hazel’s story below,

Heart-breaking post

Please welcome #Hazel she’s a 6-year-old entire female.

We were contacted by the kennels to ask us to help this poor girl. She was found tied up outside, terrified and starving to death.

The dog warden then collected her after a call from the public and took her to kennels.

As you will see from her photo’s she’s in a horrendous state.

She is starved and emaciated and looks like she has seen levels of neglect no animal should suffer.

We knew that if Hazel stayed in a kennel, she wouldn’t survive. She needed help and she needed us urgently.

Hazel’s condition is heart-breaking.

She is emaciated, covered in filth, and her body is riddled with sores from lying on hard floors. Her ears are filthy and infected. This poor girl has really suffered.

Our team sprang into action to find a foster for her. Today marks the end of her suffering, hunger, and fear. This beautiful little soul will finally know what it’s like to be loved.

A huge thank you to Nick Duffy, a dedicated supporter of GBSR, for rushing to collect Hazel from the kennels and navigating London traffic to bring her to her temp foster home with Kelsey Arpino, until we could move her to Kelly Long in the Southeast.

Hazel will be seeing our vet with urgency to get her treatment she desperately needs.

Hazel has nothing to call her own, if you would like to donate towards her care and essential items our donation details are below.
