A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Winnie is a sassy little character with a huge heart. She is stubborn in true Bulldog style, but highly food motivated and eager to please.

Winnie adores human contact and loves being close, often pressing her body against her person for cuddles. She greets you with wiggles, both paws up, and “I missed you” noises that make you feel instantly loved.

Winnie is affectionate, funny, loyal, and deeply bonds with her human. She has her “five minutes of madness” most days, enjoys gentle play fighting, and will simply walk away when she’s had enough.

Behaviour:

Winnie knows a few basic commands and is picking things up well, especially when food or fuss is involved.

Winnie has a history of some resource guarding and growling, particularly around being moved off furniture, but this has greatly improved. She now responds well to the command “off” and moves without grumbling.

Winnie can be wary of unfamiliar people, particularly men, and has shown a distrust towards a male visitor in the home. This is an area that will need continued work and careful introductions.

Winnie can be reactive to moving cars but her training is progressing very well using a short lead and positive reinforcement.

Winnie’s behaviour shows just how much she wants to connect with her person. She genuinely tries to do the right thing and aims to please, especially when she feels safe and understood. Her progress has been amazing – she listens, she learns, and she adapts when given clear, kind guidance.

Needs:

Winnie would benefit from a structured home where life is predictable and routines are consistent. She thrives when she knows what is expected of her and feels secure in clear boundaries. A quiet household without too much noise, chaos, or constant visitors will help her feel settled and relaxed.

Winnie needs firm but kind boundaries so she can feel safe, secure, and confident in her environment. She responds best to calm, consistent guidance rather than raised voices or harsh handling. Clear rules help her understand what is expected of her and prevent confusion, which is especially important for a dog who has experienced change and uncertainty.

Winnie needs an owner who is confident, patient, and not easily put off by a growl during her settling-in period. Her growl is not about being aggressive for the sake of it, but about communication. It is her way of saying she feels unsure, uncomfortable, or needs reassurance. An experienced and calm owner will understand this and respond with steady leadership rather than fear or frustration.

Walk/exercise:

Winnie can be reluctant to walk at times but responds well to encouragement and praise. She prefers parks and paths away from traffic and dislikes soggy grass or mud.
She walks well on a short lead and is largely unfazed by other dogs.

Toilet trained:

Mostly yes. She is quiet and does not vocalise when she needs to go out, instead standing by the back door. Occasional accidents can happen if this is missed.

Travel:

Winnie is an excellent traveller. She loves the car, relaxes in a hammock seat with blankets, watches the world go by, then settles down to sleep.

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

Things to be aware of:

Winnie is currently on Reconcile, which is used to help support her emotional wellbeing and manage anxiety-related behaviours. This medication helps her feel more settled, balanced, and able to cope with changes in her environment and routine. This must be continued in her new home. Winnie’s reconcile tablets coast around £50 per 30 days.

Winnie is currently on Purina Hypoallergenic, which should be continued in her new home

Winnie requires regular medication called Zenrelia, as prescribed by her vet, to help manage her allergies by controlling itching and reducing inflammation, keeping her comfortable and preventing flare-ups. Monitoring her skin and coat for any signs of redness, itching, or discomfort so issues can be addressed early. Winnie’s Zenrelia costs around £45 per 30 days.

Winnie uses Optrixcare lubricant daily for her eyes to keep they well lubricated which can be purchased for around £16 per tube.

Winnie is sensitive to certain noises such as the hoover, hairdryer, fireworks, and strong winds. These sounds can make her feel unsettled and trigger barking, as she often believes she needs to “rescue” or protect her person. This shows her strong bond and loyalty but also highlights that she can become anxious when she doesn’t understand what is happening.

Sometimes Winnie is excited to play but doesn’t realise her size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as she has the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Additional information:

Winnie’s improvements around boundaries, such as getting off the sofa without grumbling and coping better with her triggers, prove how capable she is of change. She isn’t difficult, she’s sensitive, and once she understands what is being asked of her, she really does try her best.

Winnie is a young dog who just wants stability, love, and consistency. In the right home, she will blossom into an incredibly loyal, well-mannered, and devoted companion who makes every day brighter just by being there.

A little note from Winnie’s foster mum;

Winnie is a gorgeous sassy girl. She adores her human and loves fuss and to give kisses. As with most Bulldogs she is stubborn and likes to test the boundaries. Good rules and she will stick to them, she really does aim to please. She loves to give paw, often sitting back on her bottom and raising both paws. It will absolutely melt your heart ❤️.

Winnie has come from a confusing time with different homes. She really is just a cracker of a girl, she has been with me a couple of months and her personality and affection has grown massively. Winnie will be super companion, loving and loyal. Her paw will be securely stamped on her furever persons heart. Just love this little squishy.

Winnie’s adoption donation fee is £500 and will need to be paid in full prior to her going home which will also be subject to a home check.

Please join us in welcoming sweet Winnie back into the GBSR family.

Many of you will remember beautiful Winnie — she first came to us earlier this year after being found wandering alone. She then moved into foster with the lovely Michele and Mark in the Midlands, who went on to adopt her.

We kindly ask for no judgment, only love and understanding for Michele and Mark, who made the brave and selfless decision to let Winnie return to us when things sadly didn’t work out as hoped.

We’re incredibly grateful to be able to continue supporting all of our GBSR babies, and we’re happy to share that Winnie is now settling in beautifully with her new foster mum, Hannah, also in the Midlands.

It’s Hannah’s very first foster with us — welcome to the team! We’re so excited to have you on board and to be part of Winnie’s next chapter.

Welcome home, Winnie.

We have some very exciting news and that Winnie is home!!

Gorgeous girl Winnie didn't have the best start to life, at the age of 2 she was found wondering the streets and ended up in Kennels

Thankfully, the kennels were local to our lovely rescue coordinator Helen, so once Winnie's 7 days hold was up she left her street days behind her and started her new life as a GBSR doggie

Winnie had a well needed pamper weekend with Helen before moving to the South East to join Teresa and her family. Thank you to both Helen and Teresa for starting Winnie's foster journey.

Winnie had one final journey to make, she moved up to the midlands to join Michelle and Mark

We could quickly see that Winnie stole their hearts with her sassy behaviour and her determination to get her bum firmly settled on the sofa

When it came time for us to open Winnie's applications, Michelle and Mark asked if they could make Winnie an offical part of their family and of course, we couldn't say no!

Winnie has already shown she is going to make the best foster sister to all the GBSR babies in need by taking Odin under her wing, we can't wait to see her flourish as she continues to settle

Please help us congratulate, Michelle and Mark on their new little girl, Winnie!

Winnie, enjoy your happy ever after sweet girl! We couldn't be happier you have found your forever family and sofa

Please welcome a gorgeous new addition to our Springboard Family …Winnie is 2 years’ old and is another girl left to fend for herself on the streets having been bred from
You won’t be surprised to hear Winnie’s microchip hasn’t been registered – of course it hasn’t..!!!

But her previous life is well and truly behind her now as she embarks on her Springboard journey with us

Winnie came into foster with GBSR Rescue Co-ordinator Helen Diggins, after her 7 days stay at a kennels on Friday.

Winnie had a hot spot, her nails were overgrown, she had itchy skin and she stank to high heaven.

So, over the weekend, with the help of her girls, Helen bathed Winnie 3 times to help with her skin which was sore with untreated allergies. Winnie was only pit stopping at Helen’s as we needed to get her out of the kennel situation, but the weather was so hot we didn’t want her travelling far, so Helen offered to have her over the weekend until she could travel when it was cooler.

Then yesterday, foster volunteer Teresa Day collected Winnie for us, and she is now in foster in the Southeast.

Thank you so much Helen for taking Winnie and short notice for us, and for getting her out of the kennels and to Teresa who has kindly offered to foster Winnie for us – huge gratitude to you both

Winnie had a settled first night and today she had her vet check.

She will need to continue with medicated baths and steroids, and she might possibly need surgery on her tail which is very strange (see pic) and we are also looking at the possibility of surgery for entropion.

But she is the happiest little girl, and we think she is loving being out of kennels and in a comfortable home with a decent diet

Obviously, we will need to investigate having Winnie spayed but for now we are just going to let her settle and get her allergies under control

So please welcome this adorable girl into the arms of GBSR and we are looking forward to watching her journey with us
