A BIT ABOUT ME
Personality:
Maddie is a bright, playful young bulldog who is very much still a puppy at heart. She’s affectionate, people-focused and happiest when she’s involved in whatever her humans are doing. After arriving shy and a little unsure, she quickly blossomed into a fun-loving, confident girl who shows just how much personality she has.
Maddie loves play, toys, adventures and cuddles in equal measure. She can get excitable and boisterous, especially around dogs or people she enjoys, but she settles well with support and benefits from structure and downtime.
Maddie a typical bulldog in the best ways — a little stubborn, quite opinionated, and full of character.
Overall, she’s a loving, funny, affectionate young dog with a solid temperament — a true blank canvas who will thrive in a home willing to invest time, patience and love as she continues to grow into herself.
Behaviour:
Maddie’s behaviour is very much in line with a young bulldog who hasn’t had much early socialisation but is learning quickly and responding well to guidance. She is generally well-mannered in the home, settled, and eager to engage with her people, but she still shows typical puppy behaviours that will continue to improve with time and training.
Maddie is calm and affectionate once she’s settled. She is housetrained, relaxed around food, and shows no guarding behaviours with people, toys or other dogs. She enjoys playing, particularly with other dogs, and while she does like rough play, this is easily managed with supervision and enforced breaks when she becomes over excited
When excited or over-stimulated, Maddie can show signs of attention-seeking puppy behaviour. However, she responds well to calm redirection and structure. She can also be a little stubborn at times, which is very typical of the breed, but she is eager to please and learning quickly.
Maddie knows some basic commands. She reliably knows sit and paw, and will usually respond to wait, although this can be a little hit and miss at times. She will also give up items if asked and allows them to be taken without any guarding, though her response isn’t always immediate when she’s excited and this is still a work in progress.
Maddie is a well-balanced young dog with a solid temperament. Her puppylike behaviours are manageable, improving, and very typical of a puppy who simply needs continued training, consistency and positive social experiences to help her reach her full potential.
Maddie is very good with other dogs in the home. She has settled in brilliantly with the resident dogs and adapted quickly from being a solo dog to living in a multi-dog household. Initially she was timid and reserved, which is completely expected with such a big change, but within a short space of time she became much more confident and comfortable.
Needs:
Maddie needs a home where she can be part of daily life she enjoys company and interaction from her people, whether that’s going out for walks, doing training, playing games or simply relaxing together.
Maddie benefits from regular, appropriate exercise, but this needs to be increased slowly. She is still building strength and confidence, and softer walking surfaces suit her better at the moment. Mental stimulation is just as important for her, and she enjoys learning, enrichment toys and gentle training sessions.
Maddie needs an owner that can give her clear boundaries. She responds best to calm, patient handling and positive reinforcement. Ongoing training will help her continue to improve her lead walking, social skills with other dogs, and impulse control when she becomes excited.
Maddie needs to have access to a secure garden and a crate for downtime, as she settles well when given the opportunity to switch off.
Maddie would be best matched with a laid-back, tolerant resident dog who can cope with puppy behaviours and ideally help model appropriate play and social cues. She shares toys well, and cohabits calmly once playtime is over.
Walk/exercise:
Maddie is still learning the ropes when it comes to walks and exercise, but she’s making steady and encouraging progress. She wasn’t walked very much before coming into foster, so everything is quite new to her, and her exercise routine is being built up gradually.
Maddie walks on a harness and is happy having it put on. At the start of walks she can pull, especially when she’s excited, but this is already improving and is very manageable with consistent handling. Maddie is strong for her size but not difficult to control.
At the moment, longer walks on hard or concrete surfaces can leave her a little footsore, so her exercise is kept sensible with plenty of grass and softer ground while she builds strength and fitness. She enjoys getting out and exploring and shows enthusiasm for walks without becoming over-tired.
When out and about, Maddie can be vocal with unfamiliar dogs, particularly if they react to her first. This appears to be due to limited early socialisation rather than fear or aggression, and she is still learning how to read and respond appropriately to other dogs’ body language. With calm, positive exposure, this is expected to continue improving.
Toilet trained:
Yes, Maddie is a good girl.
Travel:
Maddie travels very well. She rides in the boot of the car, either on her own or alongside one other resident dog and settles quickly once the journey starts. She appears relaxed during travel and copes comfortably with car journeys, showing no signs of stress or anxiety. Because of this we would consider homes up to four hours away from her foster home.
We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.
Things to be aware of:
Maddie has potential food allergies, so her diet will need to be managed carefully. Her skin has already shown improvement with the right food, which is encouraging. She also requires routine bulldog care such as wrinkle and tail pocket cleaning.
Maddie can be left alone for short periods, but being left for long durations previously caused her distress, so any time alone in a new home should be introduced slowly and thoughtfully. This will improve over time once she decompresses and feels more settled
As Maddie is still too young to be spayed, she will be going home on a spay contract. She will be recalled to the charity for her procedure when she reaches 18 months of age. The cost of the spay, up to £350, will be covered by the charity.
Sometimes Maddie is excited to play but doesn’t realise her size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as she has the potential to jump and knock children over.
Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Welcome 1 year old Maddie to the Geordie Bullies family
Maddie’s family made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her to us due family circumstances meaning they wasn’t able to provide Maddie with the time and attention she needed. As always, we ask for no judgement. Maddie’s family made their decision based on what was best for Maddie and her needs.
This weekend, Maddie made the trip to Scotland to join her new foster mum, Sarah, and her family. Thank you to Kirsty and Davie for collecting Maddie and taking her to Sarah
So far, Maddie has been settling in fabulously although naturally, she is very nervous. She has made friends with her new foster fur sisters, Helga, Heidi, and Holly — we’re sure they will all be causing mischief together very soon
Thankfully, we currently don’t have any immediate health concerns, but like all our dogs, Maddie will be going to the vets for a full health check
We would like to say a huge thank you to Sarah for opening her heart and home to Maddie
