A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Bluey is an incredibly affectionate little lady who loves being close to her people. She adores cuddles, happily leans in for strokes anywhere on her body, and would stand for affection for hours if she could. She is naturally loving, chilled, and laid‑back, with a sweet cheeky streak that makes her wonderfully endearing.

Out in the field she becomes playful and joyful, running after us before throwing herself down onto the grass, popping back up, and doing it all over again. She also has a funny fascination with feet and boots, often trotting around and weaving gently at your feet.

Bluey can be a little stubborn at times, particularly on walks in cold, wet, or windy weather. She’ll walk a certain distance and then decide she’s done, standing still until you turn back toward home.

Visitors always comment on how calm and relaxed she is. She has a particular soft spot for men and loves having a man around; she’s more enthusiastic on walks when foster dad joins the walks, and it’s easier to give her eye drops with him nearby.

She loves her comforts, enjoys cuddles more than anything, and isn’t keen on braving unpleasant weather. The garden is one of her favourite places—she loves mooching around, watching the birds, taking in the world, and finding a warm patch of sunshine to stretch out in.

Bluey also enjoys simply watching you as you go about your day and is an unashamedly intense starer when you’re eating, hoping for a crumb or two. Her favourite way to end the day is falling asleep while leaning against you, wrapped in a cosy cuddle.

Behaviour:

Bluey knows “sit” and “wait,” although she offers them on her own terms. “Paw” is still a work in progress, and we’ve been practising this more regularly. She responds instantly to “walkies,” tilting her head and running over with enthusiasm.

She doesn’t spend a lot of time playing with toys independently. Occasionally she’ll pick up a soft toy to shake or nibble, but she much prefers interactive play with resident dog or with us. She enjoys balls and is especially fond of anything that squeaks.

We have never seen any signs of aggression or possessiveness. One of her favourite toys is a battery‑operated “chuckle chum” that vibrates and makes noise when touched—she loves chasing it and tossing it around.

Most of the time she is very laid‑back, but she does enjoy a little playful wrestling and gentle bitey‑face games, especially with foster dad.

She can also be sensitive to certain sounds and doesn’t like the buzzing of a bee near her.

Bluey also loves to watch what you’re doing around the house and is an unashamedly intense starer when you’re eating—she’ll fix her eyes on you with great focus, hoping for a taste or a crumb to fall her way.

Needs:

Bluey needs a calm, steady home environment with a family who will include her in daily life and their adventures. A secure garden is essential so she can relax, explore, and enjoy time outdoors.

She will benefit greatly from having a calm but playful male dog companion—someone who can keep her company when her humans are out and who matches her gentle energy.

Her new family must have a good understanding of bulldog husbandry and the daily care requirements of the breed. It is also important that they are fully committed to managing her dry eye, ensuring her eye care routine is carried out consistently every day.

Walk/exercise:

Bluey walks beautifully on the lead and really enjoys exploring the lanes. She sets a good pace, often walking with purpose as though she’s on a mission. She doesn’t pull and is equally comfortable walking alone or as part of a group.

We back onto a field, so she often goes out there with resident dog, but now that the grass is getting longer she seems to prefer the lanes.

She has also walked alongside other dogs and in larger groups during the monthly bulldog walks with no issues. She moves nicely with the others, happily doing her own thing while allowing them to do theirs.

Toilet trained:

Bluey is a good girl. She is house‑trained, although she sometimes needs gentle encouragement to go outside, especially in poor weather. She doesn’t always signal when she needs to toilet, but if the door is opened she will usually rush straight out. She understands the cue “wee wee.”

She has had a couple of overnight accidents in her bed, so we ensure she goes out for a final toilet break just before bedtime. She can be reluctant at this time, as she is often already settled and cosy in her bed.

Travel:

Bluey travels on the back seat secured with a seat‑belt attachment, as she is not currently using a crate. She travels reasonably well, though it can take her some time to settle, and she tends to pant quite a bit at the start of the journey. She is noticeably more relaxed when someone sits beside her.

Bluey can be quite fidgety and often prefers to rest her head or chin against the seat or the person next to her. Despite this initial restlessness, she absolutely loves getting into the car. She will happily wait by the vehicle for the door to open and eagerly scramble inside.

Because of this we will accept applications of up to 4 hours from her current location.

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

**TRANSPORTING DURING WARMER WEATHER IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE CAR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE**

Things to be aware of:

Bluey is currently receiving chloramphenicol eye drops twice daily until the course is completed. She is also using Optixcare eye lubricant four times a day, which should be continued to support her slightly dry eyes.

Her only ongoing post‑operative issue is the presence of dissolvable sutures on her lower left eyelid and on both the upper and lower lids of her right eye. The lower lids have clear sutures and the upper lid has a purple suture. These are expected to dissolve naturally within 30 days; she is currently 11 days post‑entropion surgery.

In the home, Bluey can occasionally be a little skittish. Sudden noises—such as something dropping—may startle her, causing her to retreat quickly to her bed. We haven’t yet identified a specific trigger, but she does appear sensitive to unexpected sounds.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Additional information from Bluey’s foster family:

Bluey just loves her humans and would love to have cuddles all day long. The way she looks at you will absolutely melt your heart. She loves giving out the kisses and her favourite thing is sleeping in her big, snuggley bed although she snores like a freight train.

This girl deserves only the best.

Bluey’s story.

Bluey

Bluey has sadly been surrendered due to family commitments that meant her most recent family could no longer meet her needs. They had previously saved her from a situation where she was mistreated, and we ask that there be no judgement—they truly did their best to keep her and improve her life, but ultimately had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go.

Bluey is a 5-year-old, unspayed girl and is currently settling into foster care with the lovely Jo in the South West, where she’s also joined Jo’s resident pooch, Lenny the spaniel.

Bluey arrived with us in a bit of a state, but nothing that a little TLC can’t fix. On arrival, she had a very dirty nose rope and extremely sore eyes, so we’ve already started her on eye drops to ease her discomfort.

The good news is that her skin looks to be in good condition and she has a lovely thick coat. It does appear that Bluey may have had a couple of litters, but with very little information from her earlier history, it’s hard to know what this poor girl has been through.

Following her vet visit, it’s been confirmed that Bluey will need entropion surgery on both sets of eyelids. Thankfully, there is no ulceration. She’s been prescribed eye drops and we’ll be arranging surgery in a few weeks. The vet has also advised that Bluey may be a candidate for BOAS surgery in the future.

For now, Bluey is decompressing and already showing what a beautiful, loving girl she is. We’re so excited to see her true personality shine through.

Please join us in giving a very warm welcome to Bluey
