A BIT ABOUT ME
Personality:
Bonita prefers the quieter side of life, enjoys spending her days relaxing somewhere comfy and watching the world go by.
Bonita will start off anxious and reserved but once you earn her trust, she will be your shadow, and her affectionate nature will shine through.
Bonita adores her humans, and thrives on physical affection and interaction, and of course, in typical bulldog fashion she can be stubborn and bossy.
Behaviour:
Bonita sadly doesn’t quite understand play, or rough play either aimed at her or other dogs in the home, she is a gentle soul.
Bonita is a bulldog in body but guard dog at heart, she will bark when strangers approach the home.
Bonita can resource guard sofas and toys, it is important that firm boundaries are in place especially as she settles.
Bonita can air snap at times but doesn’t have a malicious bone in her body, this is when she is anxious and unfamiliar.
Bonita is not a fan of children and loud noises; she will do what she can to hide away from them.
Needs:
Bonita needs a calm home environment, with a family who can understand her needs and keep boundaries in place with her.
Bonita responds well to interaction and working with her humans on commands and basic training will cement the bond between them.
A laid-back, male dog as a companion.
A garden is a must.
Walk/exercise:
Bonita loves her walks; she walks very well on the lead and walks well both alone and in company.
Bonita is unphased by unfamiliar dogs whilst out, however will make her boundaries known if they pester her.
Toilet trained:
Yes, Bonita is a good girl, she may have the odd accident initially as she learns her new home and routine.
Travel:
Bonita can be anxious, in unfamiliar cars and can leap around.
Because of this we will accept applications of up to 2 hours away from her current location.
We recommend using a seatbelt restraint whenever transporting dogs.
Things to be aware of:
Bonita has had surgery to amputate her tail, due to chronic tail pocket infection, her fur has begun to grow back in. But she does have an area shaved around her bottom and lower back.
Bonita will be adopted on a “to be spayed” contract. Bonita will be spayed at a vet of the charity’s agreement with the basic cost of spay covered by the charity. She will be recalled end of May 2025 when she is due for spay.
Bonita is scared of young children so any visiting children must be kept separated.
Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.
Additional information from Bonita’s foster family:
Bonita has been an absolute joy to foster. She came to us as a very nervous, heartbroken little girl with a whole load of sass. She has decompressed beautifully in foster, and we have worked on building her confidence with her. She doesn’t want for anything bar a snuggle and a sofa to lie on. She can be stubborn and have her sassy moments, but these are few and far between and easily managed with a gentle but firm approach.
Bonita has been a gorgeous foster-sis to Lenny (EB) and the two of them womble around sun chasing daily!
Bonita will be an absolutely incredible companion for whoever is lucky enough to be her forever human.
Bonita’s adoption donation fee is £500 and will need to be paid in full prior to her going home which will also be subject to a home check.
**Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. And the admin team are available for advice and support for the whole of that dog’s lifetime via Messenger, therefore the successful applicant will need to have an active Facebook and Messenger account for the life of the dog. If you cannot agree to this, please don’t apply**

A little of Bonita’s story below,
Bonita
Please welcome 2-year-old Bonita into our Springboard Family.
Earlier this week, one of our volunteers alerted us to the plight of Bonita after seeing a post about her on social media.
Her owner had died, and she was in very temporary care whilst a safe rescue space was found for her.
Yesterday, Foster Volunteer Rachel Dingle collected this sweet little girl for us
Bonita was a bit unsettled overnight, not just because of the recent changes in her life she is dealing with, but also because she has the most horrendous tail pocket infection.
She is literally oozing and the skin on her rear end is starting to break down
Bonita has been booked in to see the vet at 3pm today so by tomorrow she should start to feel a lot more comfortable.
There will be an update post vet visit, and we are keeping everything crossed she doesn’t need her tail amputated
