A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Diesel is a confident, outgoing young boy with a huge love for people. He absolutely thrives on human attention and wants to be involved in whatever is going on

Diesel is affectionate, loyal and full of character, equally happy having a play as he is snuggling up for fuss.

Overall, Diesel is a fun-loving, affectionate, slightly mischievous character with plenty of charm. In the right home, with structure and continued training, he will be an incredibly rewarding and devoted companion.

Behaviour:

He can reliably sit and is good at wait, particularly at feeding times where he will sit and wait for his bowl to be placed down. He understands “leave” and will respond appropriately without any guarding or negative reaction, although like most young dogs this could always be strengthened further with continued training.

His recall is good in the home and garden environment, but it hasn’t been extensively tested off lead in public, so this would need building up gradually.

Diesel enjoys rough and playful interaction, but he can get over-excited during it. This behaviour is typical of a young, confident bulldog who gets carried away in the moment. With consistent boundaries, calm redirection and ongoing training, this should continue to improve as he matures. He would suit owners who are confident and firm enough to manage his excitement and when play becomes lively, he tends to mouth hands, feet or clothing. It isn’t hard or in malice, it’s more playful, excitable mouthing, but it is still something that needs managing. If he’s told to stop, he does respond, although he may need reminding once or twice when he’s very excited.

Needs:

Diesel’s needs centre around structure, activity and human companionship.

He thrives on being around people and would do best in a home where he isn’t left for very long periods. He enjoys social environments, walks, outings and generally being involved in day-to-day life. An owner who can include him in their routine, whether that’s trips out, days at work, or relaxed evenings at home would suit him perfectly.

Training and consistency are important for Diesel. He is a confident young dog who benefits from clear boundaries. Continued work on jumping up, polite greetings and reducing mouthing during play will help him mature into a very well-mannered adult. He responds well to correction, so a calm but firm owner who won’t let him “get away with it” is key.

Walk/exercise:

Diesel walks well on the lead and is easy to handle. The only time he tends to pull is when he spots someone, he’d like to say hello to. Whether that’s a person or another dog. He’s very social and keen to greet everyone, so some continued work on polite walking past distractions would benefit him.

He has only been walked on his own rather than in a pack, but he shows no issues when encountering other dogs out and about. He’s confident and friendly, sometimes a little over-enthusiastic with his greetings, but there’s no Malice.

Toilet trained:

Yes, Diesel is a good boy

Travel:

Diesel travels in a crate in the back of the car and settles quickly. There is no crying, barking or signs of stress, he simply lies down and often goes to sleep. He appears relaxed and comfortable during journeys and has handled regular travel without any issues. Because of this we will consider homes up to four hours away from his foster home

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

Things to be aware of:

Diesel is a young, confident boy who can become over-excited. This shows as jumping up when greeting people and mouthing during rough play. There is no malice behind it, but it does require consistent boundaries and ongoing training. He will respond to correction, but he needs an owner who is firm and won’t let those behaviours slide.

He is very social and loves saying hello to everyone, which can lead to pulling on the lead if he’s eager to greet someone. Continued work on polite walking will help refine this.

Medically, he has been neutered and had cherry eye surgery in one eye. There are no ongoing issues, but there has been mention of a cough that the vet believes could be linked to BOAS, meaning surgery may be needed in the future. This is something potential adopters should be aware of and prepared to monitor.

He’s also not particularly fond of the hoover, although he treats it more like a game than a fear and he hasn’t lived with cats, so that would be an unknown

Sometimes Diesel is excited to play but doesn’t realise his size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as he has the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Additional information from Diesel’s foster family:

Diesel is a fantastic dog. He thrives on social interaction and loves a trip to the pub! Walks are great with Diesel, as he is well behaved. He is such a handsome boy, who gets a huge amount of attention everywhere he goes. Everyone he has met, has fallen for his charm, which he has in spadefuls.

Diesel’s adoption donation fee is £500 and will need to be paid in full prior to him going home which will also be subject to a home check.

Please join us in welcoming the very handsome Diesel to the Geordie Bullies family

Diesel is sadly another dog who found himself wandering the streets alone during the cold, dark days of winter. Thankfully, he was found and taken to one of the kennels we regularly work with.

When Diesel arrived into foster care, he had an upset tummy, which is to be expected after so much change and not eating a proper diet whilst living on the streets. He also has cherry eye in his right eye, but other than this, we have no immediate concerns for his health — which is great news!

Due to Diesel being found as a stray, we have no history of his health or background, but we believe he is around 2–3 years old. As with all our dogs, Diesel will be going to the vets this week for a full health check.

Over the weekend, Diesel was collected by his foster dad, Andy, and he is already making himself at home and proving to be the perfect house guest

We would like to say a huge thank you to Andy and his family for opening up their home to Diesel at a time when he needed it the most. We truly hope you enjoy your first foster experience

With some love, home comforts, and a good diet, Diesel will hopefully soon be showing us all his cheeky personality, which we just know is waiting to burst out!
