A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Edith is an incredibly sweet and affectionate girl whose main goal in life is to be as close to her people as possible. She absolutely loves cuddles and attention, happily soaking up any fuss she can get.

Despite being 8 years old, Edith certainly doesn’t act like a typical older dog. She has a lovely, youthful energy about her and still enjoys getting out for her walks, pottering around the garden, and making the most of sunny spots for a good sunbathe. She greets you with genuine excitement when you come home and still has plenty of life and character to share.

She has the perfect balance of still being active enough to enjoy daily life, while also being calm and content in the home, making her an easy and rewarding companion.

Behaviour:

Edith does have a slightly stubborn streak at times—she’s still learning basic commands and can be selective in her listening, especially if she’s focused on something more interesting like sniffing. She’s not toy-driven and doesn’t really engage in play, but she does enjoy food-based enrichment and is very motivated by treats.

Edith shows no signs of reactivity or guarding behaviours. She is tolerant, gentle, and trusting, even if she occasionally flinches when approached too quickly, something that has already improved and continues to do so as her confidence grows.

Overall, Edith’s behaviour is that of a kind, affectionate, and well-balanced dog who, with a little continued guidance, will fit easily into a loving home.

Needs:

Edith would suit a home where she can have plenty of human interaction, as she is very people-focused and loves affection.

Edith will need an owner who is happy to continue her basic training, as she is still learning commands and can be a little stubborn at times. She responds well to food, so positive reinforcement will go a long way with her.

Edith would benefit from having access to a secure garden, and this is something we would consider important for her new home. She really enjoys spending time outdoors, particularly pottering around at her own pace and relaxing in sunny spots, sunbathing is one of her favourite things to do. A garden would give her the freedom to do this safely, as well as provide an additional outlet for gentle exercise and mental stimulation alongside her daily walks.

Overall, Edith would suit a loving, calm home that can offer her companionship, routine, and plenty of cuddles, she’s a affectionate girl who will make a wonderful companion in the right environment.

Walk/exercise:

Edith really enjoys her walks, and they are an important part of her daily routine. She is currently walked twice a day and looks forward to getting out and about, taking in her surroundings and having a good sniff. Her exercise needs are moderate, she doesn’t require long or intense walks, but she does benefit from consistent, regular outings to keep her happy and healthy.

Edith shows polite interest in other dogs and is happy to pass them without any issues. She’s also very unfazed by her surroundings, taking traffic and general day-to-day noise in her stride.

Toilet trained:

Edith is mostly toilet trained and has a good understanding of her routine. She will usually let you know when she needs to go out by fussing near the back door, and she toilets reliably when given the opportunity outside, particularly during her walks.

She has not had any accidents in the home while people are present, which shows she does have good awareness. However, she can have the occasional small accident overnight in her crate, particularly if she wakes early and isn’t let out straight away. These are not large amounts and may be linked to her trying to signal that she needs to go out.

With a consistent routine and easy access to a garden, this should continue to improve. Overall, she is very close to being fully toilet trained and just needs a bit of ongoing consistency and understanding in her new home.

Travel:

Edith travels very well and is generally calm and settled in the car. She currently travels on the back seat with a seatbelt attachment and is comfortable for journeys, making her a good companion for trips out.

The only slight challenge is getting her out of the car. She’s a bit reluctant to jump down herself and isn’t overly keen on being lifted, often choosing to lie down when you reach for her. This means she may need a bit of gentle encouragement and confident handling to help her out safely.

Because of this we will consider homes up to four hours away from her foster home

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

Things to be aware of:

Edith has recently undergone cherry eye repocketing surgery and will need to be fully signed off by the veterinary team before being ready to go to her new home.

Due to coming into season whilst in foster, Edith will be rehomed on a spay contract. She will be recalled by the charity in June for her spay procedure.

The charity will contribute up to £350 towards the cost of a standard spay. The adopter agrees to make Edith available for this procedure at the specified time and to follow all veterinary guidance before and after surgery.

Sometimes Edith is excited to play but doesn’t realise her size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as she has the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Additional information from Edith’s foster family:

Edith is the most loving girl! 8 is the new 2, and she’s full of life and love. Her funny personality is coming out more. She loves to sunbathe in the garden and will do anything for a gravy bone.

Edith’s adoption donation fee is £300 and will need to be paid in full prior to her going home which will also be subject to a home check.

Ediths Story

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to one of the newest members of the GBSR family — beautiful Edith. Last week we received a surrender form for Edith and her sister (who you’ll meet very soon). The girls had been living separately outdoors as they didn’t get along, and sadly, due to a relationship breakdown, their owners were no longer able to keep them

We’re so grateful we were able to step in and bring them into our care. Edith was collected on Saturday by her wonderful fosterers, Tasha and William, and she is now settling into foster life with them in the Midlands. Edith is a lovely 8-year-old, unspayed girl who absolutely adores attention. She’s slowly adjusting to life indoors, although everyday household noises still make her quite unsure. Poor Edith is also suffering from a very sore-looking cherry eye, which we’ll be getting checked by the vets as soon as possible

The girls haven’t been walked in a very long time and were largely left to their own devices, so this is all a big change for them. They’ll need plenty of time, patience, and space to decompress and adjust to their new lives. For now, please help us welcome our gorgeous girl, Edith, to the GBSR family

As Edith has only just arrived into foster with us, please do not apply or ask to register interest at this time.she is not yet available, and any applications submitted now will not be valid until her status changes from In Foster to Applications Available.
