A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Eileen is a funny, lively and incredibly loving little girl with a huge heart. She is very people-orientated and will follow you around like a shadow, always wanting to be close in case you disappear.

Eileen forms strong attachments and gives her trust wholeheartedly, which makes her deeply loyal and affectionate. Eileen adores cuddles, kisses and attention, and will happily soak up all the love you can give her.

Eileen is fun, quirky and full of personality, especially during playtime when her big puppy nature shines through.

Behaviour:

Eileen knows a few basic commands. She will happily sit when asked and understands leave most of the time, although she can try her luck if she thinks she might get away with it. She does not yet have a reliable wait and needs patience and consistency with this.

Because she is playful and sees many things as a game, her focus can wander, but she responds best to calm handling, praise and positive reinforcement. With regular, gentle training, she has the potential to build on her basic commands and improve her manners further.

Eileen is very food motivated and gets excited at mealtimes. She will bark in anticipation while her food is being prepared. She uses a slow feeder, which helps her to eat at a slower pace.

Needs:

Eileen needs a calm, structured environment with clear boundaries to help her feel secure and understand what is expected of her. Routine is very important to her, as it helps reduce her anxiety and builds her confidence.

Eileen would be best suited to a dog-free and cat-free home due to her reactivity, and she needs an owner who is comfortable managing her around other dogs when out walking. A secure garden and a crate space where she can settle (without being locked in) are ideal for her.

She also needs ongoing training using positive reinforcement, especially around impulse control, lead manners, and waiting. Mental stimulation, playtime, and gentle exercise are important, alongside plenty of affection and closeness.

Above all, Eileen needs kindness, patience, and understanding. Once she feels safe and trusted, she gives unconditional love and becomes an incredibly devoted and loyal companion.

Walk/exercise:

Eileen absolutely loves her walks and will happily go out all day. She gets very excited when she knows it’s time to go and sees it as a fun adventure. Walks are a big highlight of her day and a great outlet for her energy.

Eileen is reactive to other dogs and may bark or lunge when she sees them, even from across the road. For this reason, she must always be walked on a lead and handled by someone confident who can manage her safely and calmly. She is not suitable for pack walks and does best when walked on her own with her owner.

Toilet trained:

Yes, Eileen is toilet trained. She is clean in the home and understands her routine well. However, if she is left for too long, she may have an accident, so will benefit from regular toilet breaks and not being left for extended periods.

Travel:

Eileen travels well in the car and is generally relaxed. She either sits or lies down comfortably. She does not show signs of stress or anxiety during journeys, Because of this we will consider homes up to four hours from her foster home.

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

Things to be aware of:

Eileen is currently on a medication called Imcurim, which helps strengthen the neck of her bladder. This lifelong medication has made a huge difference to her quality of life, and she now only has very small drops. The cost is approximately £14 per month, and it is essential for keeping her comfortable and healthy.

Sometimes Eileen is excited to play but doesn’t realise her size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as she has the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Eileen requires eye lubricant for dryness in both eyes, which is applied twice a day. This helps keep her eyes comfortable, prevents irritation, and maintains healthy eye moisture. She tolerates the treatment well, and it is an important part of her daily care routine.

Eileen

Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the GBSR family… #Eileen

Eileen has come to us from a kennel after they reached out for support, and we’re glad we were able to step in. Before arriving, she had her cherry eye removed, and she’s currently recovering well from the procedure

Eileen joined Lorraine for a few days before making the move to her permanent foster home. Thank you Lorraine for providing Eileen with a safe space for a couple of days

She’s now settling into foster life with her foster mum — also named Eileen — in the North East. She’s had a couple of accidents over the weekend, but otherwise she’s doing well and taking everything in her stride

Eileen visited the vets today for her health check and has been prescribed medication to help clear up an ongoing water infection. Fingers crossed she’ll be feeling more comfortable over the next few days

Welcome to GBSR, Eileen. We’re happy to have you safe with us.
