Elma – Now Adopted!
We have some fabulous news to share …. #Elma has gone home!!
Elma was collected by Andrew and Jackie yesterday and she has wasted no time settling in with them and her new fur sisters Blossom & Tui, it’s like they have always been together.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Wayne who took Elma into foster in February after her owner could no longer care for her. You have done a great job as always and we thank you and obviously Babs and Bleu as well.
So please join us in congratulating Jackie and Andrew on their adoption of Elma and we hope you will have many years of happiness and adventures with her!!

A BIT ABOUT ME
Personality:
Elma is a clumsy, playful & sweet young girl.
She loves company whether human or other dogs and will shower either with love and affection.
Behaviour:
Elma is a typical bulldog who will use her body to her advantage, to prevent things like baby gates being closed, as she just wants to be with her people she thrives in company.
She will seek you or other dogs out for attention and play and is very responsive with basic commands.
Elma is a greedy girl and food will be gone in a second, we would advise she is fed separately from other dogs as she may have a try at their food too.
Elma has absolutely no malice or possessive behaviours over food or toys.
Needs:
Elma needs a calm but active family environment, one which will keep her involved in all that is daily life.
A garden is a must as Elma needs plenty of gentle exercise to help her lose weight.
Elma needs another dog in the home, she needs the company and bond that only another dog can provide.
Walk/exercise:
Elma loves her walks; she can be a bit eager and can pull as she is excited.
She walks well alone, in company, and is extremely social when out. She will interact happily with unfamiliar dogs and people.
Exercise is a must for Elma, she will need multiple short walks a day to build up her stamina and aid in her weight loss.
Toilet trained:
Yes, Elma is a very good girl.
Can be left:
Elma is crate trained and will settle herself, she will always prefer company with another dog.
But can be left for up to 4 hours.
Travel:
Elma loves a car ride; she will settle well in the boot or on the back seat using a seatbelt restraint. Because of this we will accept applications of up to 4 hours from her current location.
We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.
Things to be aware of:
Elma is raw fed; she has a very delicate tummy and can’t tolerate kibbles.
Elma needs a strict diet and exercise plan to aid in her weight loss. It is imperative that Elma’s forever family understand the need to control her weight for her health and wellbeing. To prevent the need for medical intervention such as BOAS surgery as this will be the responsibility of the new owners to finance.
Because of her current weight it is unsafe to put her under a GA to be spayed.
Elma will be going home on a “to be spayed” contract to be spayed by a vet of the charity’s choosing cost covered by the charity. We will keep in close contact with her family to support in her weight loss, to prepare her for spay.
Elma will not be rehomed with any ENTIRE dogs.
Sometimes Elma is excited to play but doesn’t realise her size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as she has the potential to jump and knock children over.
Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.
Additional information:
Elma is the most amazing lady; she adores everyone she meets and will spoil you with so much love and affection. She adores children, dogs and adults alike and will be the most incredible addition to any family.
A little of Elma’s story below,
Please welcome the gorgeous Elma to our GBSR family.
Elma is a 3-year-old entire female.
We have been in contact with Elma’s owner for some time, life sometimes throws a curve ball and with a new baby on the way she just couldn’t manage it all.
She was desperate for us to take her to ensure Elma’s safety and well-being, and we were pleased that we were finally in a position where we could help at the right time.
Elma is in foster with the amazing Wayne Byrne in the North West. She is settling really well and getting on really well with Babs the super pug, and Bleu is being her typical sulky self (not happy she’s got to share her dad again)
Elma has a beautiful temperament, super affectionate and we are sure she’s going to steal your hearts as quickly as she stole ours.
Welcome to you the beginning of your happily ever after journey sweet Elma, we can’t wait to watch it all unfold!!!
