A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Ember is a bright, lively girl with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. She is outgoing, affectionate and loves being involved in whatever her humans are doing.

Ember’s favourite place to be is right beside you, soaking up all the attention she can get. She forms strong bonds and thrives on close, constant human contact, she is incredibly loving, loyal and people focused.

She’s also full of character and charm; she’ll make you laugh daily with her silly antics and expressive nature. Ember adores cuddles, fuss and, above all, a good bum scratch, which she would happily enjoy all day long if given the chance. Although very sweet and gentle with those she trusts, she can be a little stubborn at times, especially with anyone other than her primary carer, which only adds to her quirky bulldog charm.

Behaviour:

Ember is a very strong girl and can easily get carried away during play if not guided. She loves interactive games but needs an owner who can set clear boundaries and help her understand when it’s time to calm down. With the right structure, playtime becomes fun and positive.

Ember responds well to basic commands such as sit, paw and wait, particularly when asked by the person she trusts most. Ember is a smart, capable dog who enjoys learning, but she needs consistency and a confident handler to bring out her best.

In true bulldog fashion, Ember can be a little cheeky and selective in her listening skills. She may “play deaf” with other members of the household. Patience, routine and clear communication will help her build trust and reliability with everyone in the home.

Needs:

Ember hasn’t been left completely alone whilst in foster and can become upset if her main person leaves, she will need a home where someone is around most of the time and where she can gradually and gently learn that short periods of separation are safe. Patience and slow, positive training will be essential in helping her build confidence.

Ember is lively, strong and full of energy, but she also needs a calm environment with confident, patient owners who can help guide her behaviour and continue her training,

Ember is highly reactive to other dogs. She must be the only dog in the household.

She needs safe outdoor space for exercise, training and sensory enrichment.

Walk/exercise:

Because of Ember’s dog reactivity and for her own confidence, she currently wears a muzzlewhen out on walks. She is accustomed to this, and it forms an important part of her routine. Her adopters must be willing to continue muzzle training and maintain a consistent walking structure.

Ongoing behavioural training will be essential to help Ember improve her reactivity, build focus and feel more secure in challenging environments. With patience, consistency and positive reinforcement, she has every potential to continue progressing.

Ember walks calmly on the lead and responds well when she feels secure and focused. She enjoys her walks and is generally steady, but due to her strength she benefits from confident, experienced handlers.

Toilet trained:

Yes, Ember is fully toilet trained.

Travel:

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

Things to be aware of:

Ember can be nervous of items going over her head and scared of household noises like vacuums and hair dryers. She needs slow, positive desensitisation.

Ember currently sleeps in her crate at night and finds comfort in that routine.

Ember has a lifelong eye condition (inward-growing lashes) requiring repeated treatment. Her adopters must be prepared for ongoing veterinary care and costs.

Sometimes Ember is excited to play but doesn’t realise her size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as she has the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

The girl with no name now named #Ember

Please welcome Ember into the arms of our Springboard family

Ember is believed to be aged 5 and she has clearly been bred from before being dumped on the street
Her time in kennels was up, and she needed a safe placement so yesterday, Co-ordinator Emma Turnbull, volunteer Laura Mackintosh and new foster volunteer Shelley Shell jumped into action and brought this girl into foster care

Understandably Ember was stressed to the eyeballs, and she needed a calm dog free home where she could relax and unpack her recent life events

Thank you very much to Emma for collecting Ember for us and to Laura for road training her to meet Shelley and to Shelley who will be fostering this little girl in the Midlands. We very much appreciate you all giving up your time to help her and we hope you will enjoy your experience fostering for us Shelley

Ember had a reasonably settled night and today she is calmer and interested to explore hew new world including the Koi Carp in the garden which is very interesting

Shelley has given Ember the once over and she doesn’t appear to be in too bad a shape but obviously she will need her vet check and then we can organise her spay.

We don’t know what life has thrown at this little girl but whatever it was she didn’t deserve to be dumped, so please join us in welcoming Ember onto her Springboard journey knowing her hard times are now over
