A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Hugo is a typical energetic and inquisitive bulldog.

Hugo is extremely affectionate towards his humans and will seek you out cuddles and attention.

Hugo is the epitome of a companion dog. He is happiest by your side, going wherever you go.

Hugo will thrive when kept busy, he is very intelligent and quick to learn. He will respond well to his humans, building a relationship and bond through training.

Behaviour:

Hugo can be mouthy, jump up and hump in excitement but with continued training of boundaries he will soon understand expectations.

Hugo likes to play with toys and shows no possessiveness over them.

Hugo knows his basic commands and is eager to please and learn.

Hugo loves all kinds of rough play, he can become over excited, so firm boundaries are needed.

Needs:

Hugo would suit an active family, who will keep him involved with all that is daily family life.

Any potential family need to be aware how active Hugo is and he needs a home that can meet these needs, providing both physical exercise and mental stimulation.

Hugo needs an experienced owner, one that knows and understands the traits of the breed and who can continue his training to help him reach his full potential.

A garden is a must as this boy loves to explore and enjoys the outdoors.

Walk/exercise:

Hugo loves going on long walks and walks well on the lead.

Hugo absolutely loves all attention from people he meets and will say hello to everyone.

Hugo can be anxious when unfamiliar dogs approach him, he can lunge and bark to make them keep a distance from him, he will need ongoing training in this area.

Toilet trained:

Yes, Hugo is a good boy.

Travel:

Hugo travels well, he is relaxed and happy and shows no signs of stress or anxiety, because of this we would consider homes up to four hours away.

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

**TRANSPORTING DURING WARMER WEATHER IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE CAR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE**

Things to be aware of:

Hugo has skin allergies and must stay on his current hypoallergenic diet. He currently has 2 medicated baths a week to help keep his allergies under control.

Sometimes Hugo is excited to play but doesn’t realise His size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as Hugo has the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Hugo does not like to share his home space, because of this he is being rehomed as an only dog.

Additional information from Hugo’s foster:

Truthfully, I would like to keep him myself, he’s a star. I couldn’t ask for a better first foster. Hugo has been my motivation for the past month; he has been brilliant. I will be sad to see him go.

Hugo’s adoption donation fee is £450 and will need to be paid in full prior to him going home which will also be subject to a home check.

**Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. Hugo’s story.

Please welcome #Hugo back into foster.

Hugo was rehomed early May 2025 and all was well initially. His new owners have a wide social circle and are keen UK Motorhome travellers, and they looked forward to having many happy adventures with Hugo by their side.

But sadly Hugo became unsettled and we feel it might be the stimulation and anticipation of new locations and this manifested itself into lunging at dogs and trying to fight some of them

After discussions it was felt that it wasn’t fair on Hugo to carry on in his new home and on Monday, Foster Volunteer, Wayne Crake collected Hugo

Hugo will be fostered by Wayne in the North East and we want to thank him for stepping in at short notice and helping us

Hugo is doing well in himself. He will have a vet check in the next few days as his skin is sore and his eyes are sore and weeping so we need to get some treatment sorted for him and see how his behaviour is over the new few weeks before he is ready for adoption.

So welcome back Hugo, we will get you sorted sweetheart

A little of Hugo’s story below,

Hugo

Please join us in welcoming 4-year entire boy Hugo into our Springboard family

Hugo has been a much-loved member of a family since he was a puppy, but sadly his owner’s situation has changed and his is spending very long periods alone

His owner reached out to us to see if we could take him and earlier today, Danielle Cound kindly collected Hugo for us.

Thank you, Danielle, for collecting Hugo for us, and we really appreciate you taking Hugo into your home for assessment

Hugo has met the resident dogs (Pugs George and Archie, Chihuahua Pepe and Labrador Oscar), and they all appear to be getting along well so far, but like we always say, slow, steady and supervised interactions make for a successful transition for foster dog coming into a new environment.

Hugo is understandably super excited to be in the company of other dogs after spending so much time alone, so we think he is going to thoroughly enjoy the company of being in a pack… his FM is already calling him ‘Hugo the Hurricane’

Hugo has had cherry eye surgery a few years ago, and he has a skin allergy which we will be treating with a different diet and medicated shampoo while he waits to get his vet check

So, lets welcome this little boy into foster and we are looking forward to following him on his Springboard journey with us
