A BIT ABOUT ME
Personality:
Humphrey is an affectionate bulldog who absolutely thrives on human company. He is incredibly loving and enjoys being close to his people, often leaning in for fuss or resting his head on your lap.
Humphrey forms strong bonds with those around him and clearly prefers human attention over the company of other dogs. He has a very gentle and soft nature.
Humphrey is happiest when he is close to his humans, whether that’s following you from room to room, resting his head on your lap, or simply sitting beside you enjoying some quiet time together. He loves being fussed and will happily soak up as much attention as you’re willing to give, making him a very affectionate and devoted companion.
Behaviour:
Humphrey has been living with young children aged two and three in his foster home and has proven to be very tolerant and relaxed around them. He takes the noise and activity of a busy household in his stride and does not appear fazed by the presence of young children. Humphrey interacts calmly with them and is happy to share the space, often continuing to relax nearby while they play.
Humphrey has a basic understanding of a few simple commands, although like many bulldogs he can sometimes choose when he wants to listen. Since arriving in foster, he has shown improvement and is beginning to respond better when asked to do things. He can give his paw and does understand the “leave” command, responding calmly when instructed.
Humphrey is not particularly fond of rough or boisterous play. He tends to prefer a calmer, more gentle style of interaction and enjoys being fussed and stroked rather than engaging in energetic games. If play becomes too rough, he is more likely to step away or disengage rather than join in.
He seems happiest when the interaction is relaxed and affectionate, such as sitting beside you for attention or having a gentle cuddle. His preference for calm handling reflects his soft, easy-going nature, and he does best with people who respect that and interact with him in a gentle way.
Needs:
Humphrey has shown that he can live alongside other animals without issue, including another dog and even a rabbit, although he is not particularly interested in playing with other dogs and tends to prefer human attention. He could live with another calm dog or just as happily be the only pet in the home.
Humphrey would benefit from a calm, loving household that understands the typical bulldog personality would be ideal. Humphrey can be a little stubborn at times, so he would benefit from patient and consistent owners who are willing to guide him and continue reinforcing basic commands. He responds well to calm encouragement.
A secure garden would also be important for Humphrey as it will give him a safe space to get some gentle exercise and enrichment throughout the day. While he does enjoy his walks, having outdoor space where he can wander, sniff around and stretch his legs at his own pace will help keep him both mentally and physically content.
Walk/exercise:
Humphrey walks very well on the lead and is generally an easy dog to take out. He is happy to walk at your pace and does not tend to pull when using a harness. He is comfortable walking either on his own or alongside another dog and remains calm and steady during walks.
When out in public, Humphrey shows very little interest in other dogs. Even if another dog is barking at him, he tends to ignore them and simply continue with his walk. He does not react or engage and appears quite relaxed around unfamiliar dogs.
Toilet trained:
Yes, Humphrey is a good boy
Travel:
Humphrey does not enjoy traveling and currently finds car journeys stressful. He tends to bark and pant as soon as he enters the car, and this can continue throughout the trip. It takes him some time to calm down once he arrives at his destination. With patience, gradual exposure, and positive reinforcement, he may become more comfortable over time, but at the moment travel is something he finds challenging.
Because of this we will consider home up to one hour from his current location, and ww would recommend having someone travel in the back of the car with him.
We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.
Things to be aware of:
Humphrey arrived in foster with a large hotspot on his head, which has been gradually improving with care. It is being kept clean and dry, and he is responding well to the treatment.
Sometimes Humphrey is excited to play but doesn’t realise his size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as he has the potential to jump and knock children over.
Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Please give a warm welcome to the newest boy Humphrey to join the GBSR family
Humphrey has sadly been surrendered by his family, who can no longer care for him due to ill health. It’s a heartbreaking situation, and we know how difficult it can be to reach out and ask for help. We’re grateful we’re able to step in, ease their burden, and make sure Humphrey is safe and cared for.
Humphrey is a 6-year-old entire male, and he is absolutely gorgeous. During collection it was clear that he is extremely stressed after being separated from his family — a completely understandable reaction. The wonderful Chloe and Kyle have kindly opened their hearts and home as his foster carers, and Humphrey is slowly beginning to adjust to his new surroundings.
Chloe and Kyle are giving Humphrey the time and space he needs to decompress, and we’re confident it won’t be long before he feels more settled and starts making friends with their resident pooch, Missy
Humphrey does have a hotspot on his head just above his eye , but we’ll make sure that’s treated and sorted. He’ll also be heading to the vets over the next week or so for a full health check
A huge thank you to Chloe and Kyle for once again opening up your home — your kindness means the world.
Humphrey, we promise to love you and take care of you, always – you’re in the GBSR family now
