Personality:

Jasper is every inch the classic bulldog, charmingly stubborn, wonderfully headstrong and full of character. Beneath his bullheaded exterior is an energetic, playful and incredibly affectionate boy who absolutely adores his people and thrives on human companionship.

Life with Jasper is never dull. Whether he’s charging through the house like a bulldozer, finding creative ways to attract your attention, or getting himself into a little harmless mischief, he approaches everything with enthusiasm and determination. His quirky personality, trademark bulldog antics and occasional bouts of selective hearing ensure there is always something to make you smile.

Jasper forms deep and lasting bonds with those he loves and is happiest when he is by your side. He is a genuinely affectionate boy with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. Equal parts comedian and companion, Jasper has a wonderful knack for bringing laughter, joy and plenty of entertainment into everyday life.

Quite simply, Jasper is the definition of a cheeky chappy. He has a unique way of making himself the centre of your world, and anyone lucky enough to welcome him into their home will quickly understand why we will miss living in Jasper’s world so much.

Behaviour:

Jasper is crate trained and happily uses his crate as a safe and comfortable retreat when he wants some downtime. While he can be left alone for short periods, prospective adopters should be aware that Jasper is an intelligent and resourceful boy who is more than capable of finding his own forms of entertainment if left to his own devices. Like many clever bulldogs, this can occasionally lead to a little harmless mischief, so it is best he is crated whenever alone.

Jasper has a serious case of bulldog FOMO and likes to be involved in absolutely everything his family is doing. If there is an activity taking place, you can be certain Jasper believes he should be at the centre of it. He thrives on companionship and much prefers being part of the action than watching from the sidelines.

He can be sensitive to household appliances such as hoovers, hairdryers and similar noisy machines, preferring a quieter environment when these are in use.

Jasper is also a great lover of toys and enjoys carrying them around and playing at his own pace. While he hasn’t quite mastered the concept of fetch, he approaches toy time with plenty of enthusiasm and confidence, even if the rules of the game occasionally remain a mystery to him.

In true bulldog fashion, Jasper’s behaviour is equal parts lovable, entertaining and slightly mischievous. His family should be prepared for laughter, plenty of character and the occasional reminder that Jasper prefers to do things the Jasper way.

Needs:

Jasper would thrive in a calm but active family home where he is treated as a true member of the family and included in day-to-day life. He is a highly people-focused boy who loves companionship and will be happiest in a home where he can share in life’s adventures, both big and small.

His ideal family will have an understanding of the bulldog breed and the time, patience and commitment to continue his training. Jasper is a bright and capable dog with enormous potential, and he will benefit from ongoing guidance, appropriate daily exercise and plenty of opportunities to channel his energy in a positive way.

Due to his enthusiastic nature and tendency to launch into life like a bulldozer, Jasper would be best suited to a home with dog-savvy children aged 10 years and over who understand how to interact respectfully with dogs and appreciate a bulldog’s unique character.

Although Jasper can live with another dog, he has never shared a home with one before. Any resident dog must be neutered, comfortable living with a male dog and have experience of sharing their home with other dogs. His new family should be prepared to take introductions slowly, allowing relationships to develop at a pace that sets everyone up for success.

A secure garden is essential for Jasper. He has an adventurous spirit and a curious nature, and if given the opportunity, would happily set off to investigate the world on his own terms. A safe, enclosed outdoor space will allow him to enjoy exploring while keeping his adventures firmly under supervision.

Walk/exercise:

Jasper absolutely loves his walks and looks forward to them every single day. For him, every outing is an adventure, and he takes great pleasure in exploring his surroundings, investigating new scents and discovering all the interesting things the world has to offer.

A true explorer at heart, Jasper enjoys taking his time to sniff his way through a walk and is far more interested in the sights and smells around him than rushing from A to B. His enthusiasm for the outdoors makes daily walks an important and enjoyable part of his routine.

Prospective adopters should be aware that Jasper’s recall is currently non-existent. If Jasper were given the choice, he would almost certainly follow his nose all the way to his next adventure, so he must remain on lead at all times to keep him safe.

While out and about, Jasper is generally more interested in exploring his environment than interacting with other dogs. However, he is a sociable boy who enjoys greeting the people he meets and is always happy to stop and say hello to a friendly admirer.

Toilet trained:

Jasper is a good boy, he may have accidents and could scent mark during the initial settling in period, however he soon settles when he understands what is expected of him and has stopped scent marking since he was neutered.

Travel:

Jasper is learning to enjoy travel, when in the car he settles better in the footwell where you can comfort him, or sat in the back with company. He can pant heavily but with gentle reassurance he will settle.

Because of this we will accept applications of up to 3 hours from his current location, and must be prepared to take regular breaks.

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

**TRANSPORTING DURING WARMER WEATHER IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE CAR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE**

Things to be aware of:

Jasper has allergies that are well managed with his current care routine. It is important that he remains on his hypoallergenic diet and continues his allergy medication for life to keep his symptoms under control. Jasper is currently prescribed Zenrelia, which has made a significant difference to his overall comfort and wellbeing, and he must continue on this medication.

Sometimes Jasper is excited to play but don’t realise his size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as they have the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Jasper is an absolute love bug who forms strong bonds with his humans. He has a huge personality is guaranteed to make you laugh and smile countless times a day. He is the definition of a cheeky chappy and we will miss living in Jasper’s world!

Jasper’s adoption donation fee is £450 and will need to be paid in full prior to him going home which will also be subject to a home check.

**Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. And the admin team are available for advice and support for the whole of that dog’s lifetime via Messenger, therefore the successful applicant will need to have an active Facebook and Messenger account for the life of the dog. If you cannot agree to this, please don’t apply**

Jasper’s story.

Please welcome Jasper

Jasper is a 4-year-old entire boy who was sadly surrendered into our care following the sudden passing of his owner.

On Tuesday, Jasper was collected by Mike and brought to the North West, where he is now in foster care with Ceara. A huge thank you to Mike for safely transporting Jasper into our care, and to Ceara for opening her home to him and giving him somewhere safe to settle.

Jasper is already decompressing well and beginning to settle into his new surroundings. He is understandably a little sad and confused by everything that has happened, but he is taking things at his own pace and starting to find his feet

He’ll be booked in for his full health check shortly, where we can make sure there’s nothing he needs before he is booked in for his neuter.

Please note that Jasper has only just arrived into foster and so applications are not open at this time. Please do not attempt to apply for him until he is available for adoption.
