Loki – Passed Over Rainbow Bridge 🌈

#Loki

A heart-breaking update

We share this message with very heavy hearts.

Rescue work brings moments of deep joy—but also moments of immense sadness and tough decisions.

Today, we have some devastating news to share, and we do so with the same openness and honesty we’ve always promised you.

In the past six months, we’ve seen an unprecedented number of dogs with severe behavioural challenges—especially human aggression. Many of these dogs have come to us as strays from pounds, with no history or background. Without that vital information, we often don’t know what trauma or triggers they may carry until it’s too late.

Our fosters are provided with information about the dog coming into their home and are supported by us 24/7 whilst the dog is in assessment. We work very closely with our fosters who update us, sometimes many times a day, with information about the dog they are caring for.

But despite our very best efforts, our team has faced heart breaking situations with some of these dogs.

Loki, who had been returned after uncharacteristic lunging and biting, was involved in multiple incidents that left people injured. With five different bite incidents, and for the safety of all involved, we made the painful decision to let him go

Woody, too, had shown promise in his foster home. You may remember he came to us after being scheduled for euthanasia due to growling. He had been mostly settled—until last week.
Sadly, out of the blue, Woody attacked his foster and bit her severely, requiring hospital care.
After careful consultation with our trusted vets and in line with charity commission regulations—which prohibit us from rehoming dogs with known aggression—we had no choice but to help both Loki and Woody peacefully over the rainbow bridge

These decisions weigh heavily on all of us.

We loved them. We fought for them. And we mourn them.

Both boys were not alone as they left us, they were being hugged and loved by their foster families who have been left utterly heart broken

We kindly ask that everyone consider the emotional toll this has taken on our foster carers—particularly Woody’s foster, who is not only physically injured but deeply affected by this loss

We are wishing her a gentle and speedy recovery, and we hope that all comments reflect the compassion and kindness she so deserves.

So, boys, your trauma is over, and you are no longer haunted by your previous life and events that you couldn’t get past

Run free boys, enjoy your new life at Rainbow Bridge free from your inner demons, gone but never forgotten

To our Springboard family, thank you for continuing to support rescue, through the hardest moments

#Loki  please welcome Loki back into foster

Loki was rehomed 3 months ago and initially all seemed to be going well, but sadly, of late, Loki has started to display uncharacteristic behaviours and we need to understand what has changed and why he is so unsettled.

Thank you to Sarah Bowley for taking Loki into temp foster, its really helped us out  and thank you to Joanne Ball who collected Loki yesterday and she will be fostering Loki again for us – we are very grateful to you ladies

Loki has completely settled back into life with Joanne and her dogs Bailey and GBSR girl Dede, its like has has never left which is a pleasure to see – Loki will be visiting the vet to make sure he isn’t in pain or has any underlying issues and then he will have a period of assessment so we can understand what, if any triggers become apparent.

It has been a sad hand-back for Loki’s family but its right for everyone involved for Loki to be returned under our rescue back up policy

So welcome back Loki and we are looking forward to following your foster journey with us

A little about Loki’s story below

Please join us in welcoming Loki to the loving arms of our GBSR family.

Loki is a 2-year-old male who has had a challenging journey.

His family reached out to us multiple times, but we were unable to help due to our limited availability.

Their last plea was filled with desperation, and we knew we had to act.

Loki’s little girl has severe allergies, and on the advice of her consultant, the family got a dog to help boost her immune system and build tolerance to pet allergies. Unfortunately, this attempt did not succeed, and the little girl now suffers from severe eczema covering her from head to toe.

We couldn’t let this family or Loki endure any more suffering. Loki was being kept away from the daughter, but even the slightest hair on clothing or furniture would worsen her condition.

This situation affected Loki’s care, leaving him with sore skin, paws, and ears due to yeast build-up. The family felt trapped, unable to find a solution that didn’t cause suffering for either their daughter or Loki.

A huge thank you to Katie Mockett and her family for opening their hearts and home to our beautiful boy.

Loki is now in foster care in the Midlands and is settling in well. Our very own CeCe (adopted) is helping him learn the ropes, with foster brother Ralph joining in too. Loki has had his first of many soothing baths and will be seeing our vet soon.

Welcome to your new adventure, Loki. We wonder if you’ll live up to the mischievous nature of your name!

With a bit of TLC and care, you’ll be in tip-top condition and ready to find your forever home
