A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Maisie is an absolute sweetheart with the gentlest little soul and so much love to give. She can be shy when meeting new people and may take a little time to feel safe, but once she trusts you, her affectionate and loyal nature really shines through.

Maisie loves being close to her people, pottering around the house and garden as your very own bulldog assistant, and curling up for cuddles in the evening. She is calm, clean, tidy and easy to have around, enjoying her own quiet space while also loving to be included in family life. As her confidence continues to grow, her curious, playful side is beginning to blossom too especially when her favourite toys are involved.

Maisie is the kind of dog who quietly wins your heart and becomes a truly wonderful companion.

Behaviour:

Maisie is a beautifully behaved girl with lovely manners and a gentle, easy-going nature in the home. She understands “no” and “leave” very well, and her foster family have found that she has not needed much formal training because she is naturally calm, clean, tidy and respectful.

Maisie absolutely loves her toys, especially soft plushies, although she does like to perform very enthusiastic “surgery” on them, so her new family should be prepared for a few casualties along the way! She is affectionate once she feels safe and will seek out her trusted people for strokes, cuddles and lap time, which is such a special reward after giving her the patience she needs to settle.

Maisie can be nervous around new people and prefers to watch from a distance until she feels more confident, sometimes taking herself away if things feel too busy or overwhelming.

Needs:

Maisie is looking for a calm, patient and understanding family who will give her the time and space she needs to feel truly safe.

Her trust will not come overnight, but with gentle encouragement, routine and kindness, she will slowly begin to relax and show just how loving and special she is.

Maisie would not suit a loud, busy or very energetic household; she needs a peaceful home where everyone understands that she may take things at her own pace and where any children are calm, dog-savvy and respectful of her space.

A secure garden is a must for Maisie, as she enjoys pottering outside and having a safe space to explore at her own pace.

She would also greatly benefit from a kind, steady companion dog who can offer her reassurance, friendship and help her confidence continue to grow.

Any resident dog must be accepting of a new dog coming into the home and able to give Maisie the gentle companionship she needs to blossom.

Walk/exercise:

Maisie enjoys gentle, short walks and is a lovely little walking companion. She is very good on the lead and, even when using an extendable lead, she tends to stay close to your legs for reassurance rather than wandering far ahead.

Maisie can be a little nervous around heavy traffic, so quieter walking routes will suit her best while her confidence continues to grow.

She has met new people and other dogs while out and about, and with a little gentle encouragement she is able to make friends at her own pace.

Maisie can go out on her own, but she does seem to feel more settled and confident when walking alongside the resident dog, so a calm companion dog may help reassure her on walks as she continues to learn that the outside world is a safe and enjoyable place.

Toilet trained:

Maisie is mostly toilet trained and does well when she has a steady, familiar routine.

Like many dogs who are still building confidence, she may have the occasional accident if her routine changes or she feels unsettled, so her new family will need to be patient and understanding while she adjusts.

Travel:

Maisie, is slowly getting used to travelling in a car. She can be stressed and pant heavily.

Because of this we will only accept applications of up to 2 hours from her current location.

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

**TRANSPORTING DURING WARMER WEATHER IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE CAR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE**

Things to be aware of:

Maisie will be adopted on a “to be spayed” contract, with the procedure carried out at a vet chosen by the charity and the cost covered by the charity.

Maisie will not be rehomed with any entire dogs.

Sometimes Bulldogs are excited to play but don’t realise their size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as they have the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Maisie is an incredibly sweet, gentle girl who I think would make the perfect companion for someone looking for a calm and loving dog. She’s really starting to come out of her shell and it’s been lovely watching her confidence grow as she learns that the world can be a safe and happy place.

She’s very clean and tidy around the house, isn’t destructive and very rarely makes a sound — we genuinely hardly ever hear her bark! She’s quite independent and is perfectly happy having her own space and taking herself off somewhere quiet to relax, but as the evening comes around she loves nothing more than coming over for a cuddle and some affection.

She doesn’t demand attention and is very easy to have around, but she absolutely loves being included and having company. She’s becoming more affectionate and inquisitive all the time, and you can really see her little personality beginning to emerge as her confidence grows.

She’s the sort of dog who quietly becomes part of your life, and I think she’ll make a really wonderful, loyal companion for the right person or family.

Maisie’s adoption donation fee is £250 and will need to be paid in full prior to her going home which will also be subject to a home check.

**Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. And the admin team are available for advice and support for the whole of that dog’s lifetime via Messenger, therefore the successful applicant will need to have an active Facebook and Messenger account for the life of the dog. Maisie’s story.

Please welcome the newest members of the ever-growing GBSR family… Maisie

This isn’t our usual foster introduction, but we feel it’s important to explain how these two beautiful Bulldogs came into our care.

Around six weeks ago, we were made aware of concerns regarding the welfare of four Bulldogs.

As a registered rescue, we have a responsibility to follow the correct legal procedures. That means working alongside the appropriate agencies, allowing investigations to take place where necessary, and waiting for the correct surrender paperwork. It isn’t always the quickest process, but it is the right one—for the dogs, the families involved, and our rescue.

Unfortunately, before that process could be run its course, the situation spread rapidly across social media.

As emotions grew, so did the abuse. The family involved experienced harassment, intimidation and threats. Whatever anyone’s personal opinions, no one deserves to live in fear.

The relevant authorities investigated the concerns, and no enforcement action was taken. As more information came to light, it became clear the circumstances were far more complex than they had first appeared online.

Over the following weeks, we remained in daily contact with the owner. Throughout that time, she was utterly devastated. Every conversation was filled with tears, heartbreak and an overwhelming fear for the safety of her family and her dogs.

Sadly, the family have reported ongoing intimidation, with people attending their home, monitoring the property and making threats relating to the dogs. We have provided information to the police and are fully cooperating with their investigation into the reported behaviour.

Our priority has always been the welfare of the dogs, but we cannot ignore the impact this has had on the vulnerable members of the household, including a child.

Ironically, the behaviour of those claiming to be helping only created more fear and instability. Because of concerns for the dogs’ safety, they had to be moved between safe locations to reduce the risk of them being taken. That upheaval caused unnecessary stress for dogs who desperately needed stability.

In time, the owner made the incredibly difficult decision to surrender two of the Bulldogs into our care. We know how heartbreaking that decision was, and we are simply grateful she trusted us to give Maisie and Mr Bojangles the future they deserve.

We also know where the other two Bulldogs are, and they are safe, well and being cared for.

As we got to know everyone involved, it became clear this was never a simple black-and-white story. We won’t pretend to know every detail, nor will we publicly judge or shame anyone. Our responsibility has always been, and always will be, the welfare of the dogs.

We also want to be absolutely clear.

Vigilante behaviour is never acceptable.

If you genuinely believe an animal is suffering, report your concerns to the appropriate authorities. They have the legal responsibility and powers to investigate and act where necessary.

Harassment, intimidation, impersonating welfare officers, trespassing, unlawfully using drones, or encouraging abuse online does not protect animals. It places people in fear and can make it far more difficult to achieve the best outcome for the dogs.

We cannot become the enemy.

Rescue must always be built on education, compassion and empathy. By building trust with owners, we create opportunities for dogs to receive the help they need. Sometimes the bravest thing an owner can do is ask for that help.

Meet Maisie

Maisie is a beautiful 8-year-old girl who has spent much of her life living outdoors.

Walking through the front door of a home was completely overwhelming for her. Floors, furniture, televisions, everyday household noises and even a warm bed were all brand-new experiences.

She arrived frightened, anxious and unsure of the world around her, but thanks to the incredible patience, love and dedication of her foster family, she is learning that indoors is safe. Every tiny step she takes is another milestone, and watching her confidence grow has been truly special.

Both Maisie and Mr Bojangles have difficult journeys behind them, but they now have what every Bulldog deserves…
