Marley – Now Adopted!
We have amazing news to share! #Marley is Home
When Marley arrived into foster as a little baby, just 9 months old, he had only known a life of abuse and neglect. He was crated for hours on end, had been beaten and left suffering with a devastating leg injury
Thankfully, a member of the public rescued Marley from his abusers and asked us to help him.
We did an urgent call out to our fosters to get Marley into our care asap. Our fabulous volunteer Carina dropped everything to collect Marley and take him to the vets to have xrays on his leg. Only then did we understand the extent that he had been suffering
Thank you Carina for rushing to bring Marley to safety
It turned out Marley had suffered a huge impact on his front leg resulting in his foreleg bones to project upwards and shave off part of his elbow and there his bones stayed. He hadnt been treated and was left to sugger in terrible pain. It was expected Marley would need his leg amputated
Marley moved to join Amanda and her family in the midlands. Amanda was prepared to give Marley all the care he needed to get his leg better and to travel him to Solihull to be treated by our trusted vet.
Thankfully, after multiple vet visits and following a strict treatment and exercise plan, Marley’s leg started functioning as a normal leg There is potential that Marley may need further treatment in the future but for now, we received the amazing news that his leg didnt need to be amputated
We’re beyond grateful to Amanda and her family opening their hearts to Marley and for not being phased by his potential needs in foster. Your care and love has resulted in Marley not needing his leg amputated and being able to go and live his happy ever after
Marley was collected by his forever family last week and is slowly becoming best friends with his new furbrother Vinnie
Please join us in congratulating Marley’s new family Matt, Amelia and Vinnie on welcoming their newest member of the family
Marley’s Story.
9 month old puppy beaten and left with devasting leg injury
Everyone Meet #Marley – long post
Marley is the sweetest, tiniest, and most demure puppy you will ever meet but he is hiding 9 months of pain and suffering in his eagerness to please and to not be beaten or abused anymore.
Back story
Marley was rescued from a life of neglect, being crated for hours and hours, being beaten and suffering a devastating leg injury … so let us take you into his previous life for a moment.
Marley is only 12 kilos and is totally defenceless. He has suffered physical abuse which has left him scared and very meek.
About 4 weeks ago, he suffered a huge impact on his front leg, the force was so great that his foreleg bones have been projected upwards and sheared off part of his elbow …..And there the bones stayed, he was NOT ATTENDED TO, he was LEFT TO SUFFER in terrible pain – it’s so horrifically cruel, it turns our stomachs thinking of it
We were contacted by K, who managed to get Marley away from his abusers and asked us to help him
On Sunday Carina Hill travelled to collect Marley (thank you so much for dropping everything to get him into foster, we appreciate it very much ) so he would get the best veterinary treatment, and we were able to see this tiny obliging little puppy for the first time ourselves – it was utterly heart breaking watching him struggle to walk
On Monday Marley went in for x-rays so we could understand the extent of the damage, and only then did we learn what he had suffered.
We have been in consultation with our preferred orthopaedic surgeons who have advised us that we are looking at a very complex procedure to plate and screw the leg bones back into place, especially as Marley is so young and still growing.
There will be a long rehabilitation period for Marley with x-rays, meds and physio – and there are no guarantees that the operation will be 100% successful.
In fact, we won’t know if his leg can be saved until the surgeons are operating. If they can’t repair the damage, he’ll need an amputation which will present its own challenges
The estimated cost of his care is around £4,000, including the surgery, x-rays, meds, physio, and follow-up care.
We can’t turn our back on Marley. He’s already survived so much. He deserves to walk without pain, to play like a normal puppy, and to feel safe and loved.
We will need to raise money for Marley so we can give him the full GBSR treatment so we’re asking for your help.
We are always so grateful for your support, we work tirelessly fundraising with walks, lucky numbers and the auction group etc but when when are presented with a puppy facing complicated surgery and a long rehabilitation, have no choice but to ask for help, so any donation, large or small would be amazing
