A BIT ABOUT ME
Personality:
Rolo is a very special little boy, who has already overcome so much.
Rolo is a timid soul who takes time to trust his humans, but once he does his playful and affectionate nature is a joy to see.
Behaviour:
Rolo has led a very sheltered life, everything is so new to him. He will need time a patience as her learns to navigate the big wide world ahead of him.
In typical bulldog fashion he can be a lazy little boy but having the company of another dog in the home, encourages him and shows him what is expected.
Rolo can be mouthy and jump up in excitement with continued training of boundaries he will soon understand expectations.
Rolo is scared of collars, harnesses and leads, at the moment he does not go out for walks as he will shut down. He will need ongoing training to associate collars, harnesses and leads positively, this will take time.
Needs:
Rolo needs a calm family environment, with a family who have the time to give Rolo the life he deserves and are prepared to take on his needs.
Rolo will need ongoing training and support.
A calm and playful dog in the home will benefit Rolo greatly, as he takes his lead from them and learns.
A garden is a must, while Rolo can’t be walked, he does love the outdoors, and he needs somewhere to play and burn off the typical puppy energy.
Walk/exercise:
Rolo won’t walk on lead with either collar or harness.
This will need ongoing training.
Toilet trained:
Rolo can have accidents, however when living with another dog he copies them.
So having another dog in the home will aide in teaching him expectations.
Travel:
Rolo can be very stressed in the car, unfortunately this will restrict the travel time. We will accept applications of 1 hour from his current location.
We would recommend having someone sit with him.
We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.
**TRANSPORTING DURING WARMER WEATHER IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE CAR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE**
Things to be aware of:
Rolo will be adopted on a “to be neutered” contract, this will be completed at a vet of the charities choosing, costs covered by the charity.
Rolo has megaesophagus is a lifelong condition that will need to be managed. This is done by taking omeprazole 20mg daily to reduce reflux and how he is fed.
Rolo must be hand fed so he is sat up straight allowing the food to go down slowly. GBSR will guide Rolo’s forever family in how to do this.
Sometimes Rolo is excited to play but doesn’t realise his size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as he has the potential to jump and knock children over.
Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.
Additional information from Rolo’s foster family:
Rolo is amazing he’s been through so much for such a young dog he just wants love and reassurance and time to adjust.
Rolo is the sweetest boy i have ever met if you’re looking for a loving sweet cheeky little man then look no further this boy will steal your heart and your blankets.
Rolo’s adoption donation fee is £500 and will need to be paid in full prior to him going home which will also be subject to a home check.
**Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. And the admin team are available for advice and support for the whole of that dog’s lifetime via Messenger, therefore the successful applicant will need to have an active Facebook and Messenger account for the life of the dog. A little of Rolo’s story below,
Please welcome the very cute Rolo onto his Springboard journey with us!
Rolo is only 18 months old and sadly he suffered a catastrophic paralysis as a puppy which coincided with his 2nd vaccinations although no link has been proved
Over the months his family have dedicated their time to rehabilitate Rolo even though on more than 1 occasion, the vet advised them to have this tiny little boy PTS
But sadly, the owners own health issues are making an impact on how much time they can dedicate to their little boy, so they have reached out to us to take him. It’s been heart breaking for them, so please no judgment
Rolo has made remarkable progress over the past 12 months and walks and plays well, but he still has a little way to go as his family have carried him quite a bit. So we need to encourage him to walk more with very short walks to gently build his muscles up
On Wednesday Rolo arrived into foster with Nicola Lepick in Scotland. Nicola is fostering Beau for us at present, so we are very grateful to her for offering to take Rolo as well, thank you very much Nicola
And as it turns out, it’s been the best decision, as Rolo is a bit of a scared boy around humans unless they are down at his level, so he has attached himself to Beau which has made his transition so much easier
He is semi house trained so there are lots of puppy pads down at Nicola’s house and he is having regular trips outside with positive reinforcement – and hopefully he will start to follow Beau’s lead on toileting as well.
Rolo was unsettled the 1st night in foster which is to be expected but over the past couple of days he has started to show his cheeky character and his stubbornness … we think he is going to make Nicola and her husband laugh every day, he is such a sweetie
Earlier today Rolo had his vet check, and we found him to have an eye ulcer, so he has been prescribed eye drops and pain meds. He will return next week for his follow-up.
Once Rolo is settled, he will be neutered but for now, let’s welcome Rolo into the arms of our Springboard Family and we can’t wait to see him blossom and enjoy his new life
This lovely little boy will not be ready for adoption until he is neutered and has finished his assessment so please don’t try and apply for him If you would like to follow Rolo’s journey, please join our community rescue group
