A BIT ABOUT ME
Personality:
Toby is a wonderfully affectionate and easy-going boy whose main goal in life is simply to be close to his people. He is incredibly loving, gentle and well-mannered, always seeking out cuddles, fuss and companionship.
Toby is typical stubborn bulldog at times, he knows his own mind, but his calm nature and excellent behaviour make him an absolute pleasure to have in the home.
He is a confident and relaxed boy who settles quickly into new surroundings and takes life in his stride. Toby enjoys his creature comforts especially soft beds, stuffed toys and long naps and can often be found snoozing happily, sometimes with a toy still in his mouth or his tongue adorably hanging out.
Behaviour:
Toby understands basic commands such as sit and paw, which he will offer both when asked and when he is seeking attention or a reward.
Toby is currently learning to wait, particularly around food, toys and interactions with the other dogs, and is showing good progress with consistent guidance. He responds well to clear verbal direction and gentle correction, demonstrating that he is eager to please and capable of learning routines quickly.
Toby responds well to handling and enjoys human interaction. He actively seeks affection, loves being stroked and handled, and allows grooming, bathing and cleaning without issue, although he can be slightly reluctant with eye drops and ear cleaning due to mild sensitivity
Needs:
Toby is a companionship-focused bulldog whose main needs centre around comfort, routine and human company rather than high levels of exercise or stimulation. He would thrive in a calm, loving home where he can be part of everyday family life and enjoy plenty of affection and reassurance.
Toby would enjoy the company of another dog in the home, especially from a steady, tolerant dog who does not encourage rough or overly boisterous play. A calm and laid-back dog would suit him particularly well.
Walk/exercise:
Toby has very easy and relaxed exercise needs and is a pleasure to walk. He walks beautifully on the lead, does not pull, and prefers calm, steady strolls where he can take his time sniffing and scent marking. He is confident outdoors and shows little interest in distractions, happily walking past unfamiliar dogs and even cats without reacting.
He is comfortable walking either on his own or as part of a small group and fits nicely into a pack without becoming overexcited. Toby is not a high-energy dog and does not require long or strenuous exercise; instead, he enjoys gentle walks combined with plenty of rest and relaxation at home.
Toilet trained:
Yes, Toby is a good boy
Travel:
Toby travels very well and is a calm, relaxed passenger. He settles quickly in the car, choosing to lie down quietly for the duration of the journey rather than becoming restless or anxious. Because of this we will consider homes up to four hours away from his foster home.
We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.
Things to be aware of:
Toby has been diagnosed with a grade 3 heart murmur, which is something that will need routine monitoring by his vet, but it is important to note that it does not affect his everyday life. He shows no signs of exercise intolerance, breathing difficulties or reduced quality of life, and he happily enjoys his normal daily activities, gentle walks and time with his people.
At present, Toby does not require medication for his heart murmur. Many dogs live comfortably with a heart murmur for years without it causing problems, however regular veterinary check-ups are recommended so any changes can be monitored over time.
Toby has recently been taking an anti-inflammatory medication to support a mild lameness in his right hind leg. He can appear slightly stiff when he first gets up after resting, which is quite common in bulldogs, but this quickly corrects once he starts moving around. The stiffness does not appear to bother him, and he shows no signs of pain, discomfort or reluctance to walk, play or carry out his normal daily activities.
Toby is currently on a controlled diet of Purina Hypoallergenic due to sensitive skin and mild allergies. This special diet helps keep his skin healthy, reduces irritation, and supports his overall well-being. In his new home, it will be important for Toby to continue on this food to maintain his skin condition and prevent flare-ups.
Sometimes Toby is excited to play but doesn’t realise his size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as he has the potential to jump and knock children over.
Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.
Additional information from Toby’s foster family:
Toby is the best boy. He is so happy to see you in the morning, loves his toys and treats. He’s extremely gentle and so well behaved. He deserves to be loved as much as he loves people. The way to his heart is a comfy bed, stuffed toys and treats.
Toby’s adoption donation fee is £500 and will need to be paid in full prior to him going home which will also be subject to a home check.

Please welcome Toby into our Springboard family ![]()
Toby is a five-year-old boy who found himself all alone after being picked up as a stray and taken into kennels. After completing his 7-day hold, we were asked if we could help — and, of course, the answer was yes ![]()
On Friday, Toby was collected by our wonderful volunteer Danielle and headed off to foster in the North West. There, he’s joined Danielle and her family, along with resident dogs Bambi and Lottie
Toby is settling in beautifully so far and appears to be in relatively good condition. Upon initial inspection, he is underweight and has a few skin/eye issues, which we’ll be supporting him with as he settles in, alongside booking him in for his full health check
Please note that Toby has only just arrived in foster and is not yet available for adoption. Applications are not open at this time, so please don’t attempt to apply for him just yet. We’ll share his adoption poster once he’s reached the end of his assessment period.
Welcome to your next chapter, Toby. We’re so glad you’re part of the Springboard family ![]()
