A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Blu is a sweet and affectionate little soul, everything a companion should be.

She much prefers a slower pace to life, happy with a lap to cuddle up to and a window to watch the world go by.

Blu has lived a precious life and has become accustomed to being a princess.

Behaviour:

Blu is a laid-back lady; she can be anxious to start with but all she needs is patience and reassurance.

Blu is very anxious around unfamiliar dogs, and can be protective over her humans.

Blu won’t drink out of a normal dog bowl; she drinks from a fountain which will come with her.

Due to Blu’s size, she can get hot very quickly and she will want to be in front of her fan the fan will also come with her.

Blue does not like the vet, she has had a lot of treatment prior to GBSR and that has left her fearful.

Needs:

Blu needs an active family with bulldog experience, one with the time and patience she is going to need.

A garden is a must with plenty of space to encourage play and exercise.

Blu needs to be an only dog.

Walk/exercise:

Blu is starting to really enjoy her walks; Blu will need daily gentle walks to build up her stamina and help with her weight loss journey.

She walks well alone and with company, she will look for reassurance if a dog was to bark at her, but this is improving greatly as her confidence grows.

Toilet trained:

She is a very good girl.

Travel:

Blu travels well, but due to her size she may be prone to heatstroke when stressed.

Because of this we will accept applications of up to 2? hours from her current location with stops when required.

We would recommend keeping the car as cool as possible and using either a seatbelt harness or travel crate when transporting.

Things to be aware of:

Blu will be rehomed on a to be “spayed” contract, we will monitor her weight loss closely and recall her once she reaches the ideal weight for the surgery.

Blu is terribly overweight so it is of upmost importance that she remains on a controlled diet, with gentle exercise to maintain a healthy weight loss.

Blu will not be rehomed with any entire males.

Prior to GBSR Blu had TPLO surgery on hind both legs which was a success.

Sometimes Blu can jump up in excitement but doesn’t realise her size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as size has the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Additional information:

Beautiful full Blu is the epitome of companion, she is happiest at the centre of her family. Truly a gentle giant with so much to give to whoever is lucky enough to adopt her.

A little of Blu’s story below,

Please join us in warmly welcoming the beautiful Blu to our GBSR family!

Blu is a 3-year-old female who has recently joined us under very emotional circumstances.

Her previous family, who loved her dearly, had to make the heart-breaking decision to surrender her to us. Some stories touch our hearts more deeply than others, and Blu’s is one of those.

Blu’s family reached out to us, wanting to explain their situation personally.

They were concerned that their words might not fully convey the depth of their feelings. Blu, a gentle giant at 41kg, lived happily with her sister from the same litter and two elderly Shih Tzus for three wonderful years.

Tragically, a freak accident occurred while Blu was playing with one of the Shih Tzus, resulting in a severe injury to the smaller dog.

This unexpected accident devastated Blu’s family. Despite their love for her, they were deeply worried about the safety of their smaller dog, who is now on the road to recovery but requires extensive care. Keeping Blu separated from her playmates was heart-breaking  for everyone involved, especially for Blu, who couldn’t understand why she was being kept apart. The sadness in her eyes was unmistakable.

Even after the little dog heals, Blu’s family realized that she wouldn’t be able to play and be herself around them. They felt it was unfair to keep her isolated and made the incredibly difficult decision to rehome her. This decision, though painful, was made out of love and concern for all their pets. They wanted to ensure Blu would find a safe and loving forever home, free from the risk of falling into the wrong hands.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Gayle and Roy Potter in the Midlands for stepping in to help this lovely girl. We can’t thank you enough for how you have supported her family with the handover and given them the assurances they needed to know that Blu will only have the very best care with us and only a perfect forever home.

This transition has been stressful for Blu, especially given her size and the current weather conditions, which put her at risk of heatstroke. Gayle and Roy are taking things slowly, ensuring Blu has her own space to decompress. Her previous owners, concerned about her comfort, even dropped off her favourite fan to help keep her cool.

Blu is an incredibly sweet and loving lady who has been through a lot. She has undergone BOAS and TPLO surgeries on both hind legs, which have significantly improved her quality of life. Our next challenge will be managing her weight, but that’s a journey we will embark on together.

Some stories stay with us forever, and Blu’s is certainly one of them.

Welcome, Blu! We can’t wait to see what wonderful adventures lie ahead for you!!
