A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Bruce is a truly special bulldog with a wonderfully affectionate and playful nature. He is full of character and energy, and while he loves his toys, nothing makes him happier than spending time with his people, enjoying a cuddle and a much-loved bum scratch.

Bruce is gentle at heart, although his enthusiasm can sometimes mean he forgets his manners and his brakes. He is the perfect companion dog: devoted, loving, and happiest when he is by your side.

Behaviour:

Bruce is a lovely, well-natured boy who is generally well behaved, though he can occasionally become a little overexcited and forget his manners.

He can be enthusiastic when meeting people and during play, and when overstimulated he may jump up, become a little too boisterous, or try to jump and push his way towards something he wants. With calm guidance and continued training, he responds well and is learning appropriate boundaries.

Bruce has made good progress with his training and understands several commands. He will stay and wait patiently for his food, give paw, and get down when asked.

He is sensitive to rough play and can be unsettled by loud noises, so he is best supported with a gentle, reassuring approach.

Needs:

Bruce will thrive in a calm, settled home where he can be included in everyday family life and have regular companionship from someone who is home for much of the day.

He needs a family who can offer him patience, consistency, and the time to continue his training, helping him build on his progress and reach his full potential.

Bruce would suit a family who enjoys walks and can provide him with the regular exercise, enrichment, and routine he loves.

Bruce is crate trained, and it would be beneficial for this to continue in his new home to provide consistency, support his settling-in period, and ensure he has a safe, comfortable space of his own.

Due to his size, strength, and occasional enthusiasm, Bruce is looking for a home with children aged 13 and over.

A secure garden is essential so Bruce can enjoy outdoor time safely.

Bruce may enjoy the companionship of a calm, playful, spayed female dog who can help build his confidence, provided she is comfortable welcoming a new dog into the home. He could also live happily as an only dog. Any introductions would need to be managed slowly and thoughtfully, with his adopters prepared to take things at Bruce’s pace.

Walk/exercise:

Bruce absolutely loves his walks, which are one of the highlights of his day.

He is an energetic boy who has thrived with two walks each day, alongside a consistent routine that helps him stay happy and well settled.

Bruce enjoys taking his time to sniff, explore, and engage with his surroundings. He must remain on lead when out and about, as he does not currently have reliable recall.

When meeting unfamiliar dogs, Bruce may either choose to ignore them or become very excited, which can be overwhelming for some dogs. If another dog reacts negatively towards him, he tends to retreat, so his adopters should be mindful of giving him calm, well-managed introductions and space when needed.

Toilet trained:

Bruce is a very good boy, and will indicate when he wants to go out.

Travel:

Bruce hasn’t been we travelled, however is getting better each time he is in the car. He travels best in the boot. Because of this we will allow him to travel up to 4 hours from his current location, but the adopter must be willing to take regular breaks during the journey.

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

**TRANSPORTING DURING WARMER WEATHER IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE CAR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE**

Things to be aware of:

Bruce has had cherry eye surgery, he may develop dry eye in the future so it is advised that his adopted family monitor his eye closely.

Sometimes Bruce is excited to play and can be boisterous but he doesn’t realise his size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as he have the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Additional information from Brucey’s foster family:

Bruce is a little sweetheart with tons of energy and a lot of love to give.  He’s very fit and enjoys long walks but is happiest when he’s either giving a you a cwtch or being cwtched by you.

He is not your completely typical bulldog in some respects – he’s slim, trim, athletic and vey bouncy.  But in others he’s everything you would expect of a bull dog – loving, big hearted, completely besotted with his humans and just a delight to have around and be around.  There’s just not enough hugs in the world to give him!

Brucey adoption donation fee is £450 and will need to be paid in full prior to him going home which will also be subject to a home check.

**Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. And the admin team are available for advice and support for the whole of that dog’s lifetime via Messenger, therefore the successful applicant will need to have an active Facebook and Messenger account for the life of the dog. If you cannot agree to this, please don’t apply**

Brucey’s story.

Please welcome Brucey into foster care.

This lovable boy is 4½ years old and has sadly been surrendered because his family no longer had the time they felt he deserved. We completely understand how difficult this decision has been, and we’re grateful that we were able to step in and help. We kindly ask that there is no judgement during this emotional time. Bruce is a very much-loved family pet, and this has been a truly heartbreaking decision for his owners.

Since arriving in foster, Brucey has already shown us what a wonderful little character he is! He has settled in quickly with the lovely Ian and Chris in Wales, who are new foster carers with GBSR. We’re delighted to have them on board and so excited to see Brucey thriving in their care.

Welcome, Brucey. We promise we’ll take good care of you. As with all dogs that come into our care, Bruce will be heading to the vets for a full health check. Bruce does currently have a cherry eye, which we are aware of and will be looking to resolve as part of his veterinary assessment and treatment plan. We’ll keep everyone updated on his progress along the way. Please do not apply for Bruce at this time, as he is not yet available for adoption.
