A BIT ABOUT ME
Personality:
Dennis is a loving, affectionate and characterful bulldog who forms strong bonds once he has had time to build trust and decompress in his environment. Underneath his stubborn bulldog streak is a gentle, funny and deeply loyal boy with lots of love to give. He thrives on human interaction and absolutely adores cuddles, belly rubs, kisses and being involved with his people.
As Dennis has settled well into foster care, his personality has really started to shine through. He has a hilarious character and always seems to know how to make himself the centre of attention in the most lovable way.
Behaviour:
Dennis is playful and sassy, with a hilarious nature that shines through in the expressions and looks he gives. Dennis enjoys rough play but remains gentle and responsive, stopping immediately when given boundaries and commands. He is intelligent, eager to please and knows a wide range of commands once he trusts the person handling him.
Dennis enjoys playing with toys and can be encouraged to swap or “leave” items with treats and positive reinforcement. He can be stubborn at times, which is very typical of the breed, but responds well to patience, consistency and routine.
Needs:
Dennis is a sweet, affectionate and entertaining bulldog who will make a wonderful companion in the right home. He would suit a patient and understanding family willing to give him the time to settle, decompress and continue building his confidence, while providing the love, stability and reassurance he deserves. In return, his new family will gain a loyal, deeply affectionate and entertaining companion with a huge personality and so much love to give.
Walk/exercise:
Dennis enjoys getting out and about and likes exploring at his own pace, especially in quieter environments where he feels safe and relaxed. He walks nicely on the lead overall and responds well to guidance and reassurance from his handler. Like many bulldogs, he can occasionally become stubborn and may pull if he knows he is heading back home or towards the car, but he settles well with calm handling and familiar commands.
Due to his sensitivities, Dennis is not a dog who enjoys busy roads, heavy traffic or loud, overwhelming environments. These situations can make him anxious, so he is much happier being transported by car to quieter walking areas where he can enjoy sniffing, exploring and taking in his surroundings without feeling overwhelmed.
Dennis has been very calm and neutral when meeting or passing other dogs on walks. He tends to simply observe them with no real reaction and has shown no signs reactivity whilst out in public. He appears happy to mind his own business and continue walking, especially when he feels comfortable and reassured by his handler. Dennis has only been walked on his own whilst in foster, so although he has not regularly socialised closely with other dogs, his behaviour around unfamiliar dogs has been positive and relaxed so far.
Toilet trained:
Yes, Dennis is toilet trained in the home and has had no accidents whilst in foster care. He understands routines well and will let you know when he needs to go outside, including during the night if necessary.
Travel:
Dennis travels well in the car overall and is happy to jump in willingly. He currently travels secured on the back seat with a seatbelt and settles well during journeys. Because of this we would consider homes up to four hours from his foster home.
**TRANSPORTING DURING WARMER WEATHER IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE CAR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE**
We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.
Things to be aware of:
Dennis is currently on ongoing medication and takes 1½ Zenrelia tablets daily to help manage his allergies. His new family will need to be committed to continuing this medication long term, alongside maintaining his strict diet of Purina Hypoallergenic kibble.
Due to his allergies and sensitivities, it is important that Dennis remains on this food consistently and avoids unnecessary changes to his diet, as this helps keep his symptoms stable and well managed.
Although Dennis is a confident and loving dog in the home, he can be sensitive to loud noises, traffic and busy open spaces, which can make him anxious when out and about. He takes comfort from being close to his person in these situations and is continuing to build confidence with support from his foster.
Sometimes Dennis is excited to play but doesn’t realise his size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as he has the potential to jump and knock children over.
Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Please give a warm welcome to the newest member of the GBSR family — Dennis
Dennis is a 5-year-old intact Bulldog who has sadly been surrendered by his family, who could no longer care for him. As always, we ask for kindness and no judgement. This decision was made to give Dennis the very best second chance, and we’re grateful to be able to support him on that journey. Dennis was collected in the North East by our wonderful volunteer Angela and has now settled into foster care, where his new chapter begins
He has already been to the vet and, unfortunately, needs quite a bit of TLC. Dennis has been diagnosed with a chronic skin condition and has started medication, including a course of steroids to help reduce inflammation. He is also suffering from ear infections, which are now being treated
. Dennis has also been started on Malaseb shampoo, which is a medicated antibacterial and antifungal shampoo used to treat skin infections caused by bacteria and yeast. It helps reduce itching, inflammation, and irritation, supports healing of the skin, and improves the overall condition of his coat — hopefully bringing him some much-needed comfort and relief
In the near future, Dennis will require entropion surgery on his lower eyelids. In the meantime, he has been started on eye drops to help ease his discomfort. Despite everything he’s been through, Dennis is proving to be a gentle, affectionate boy with so much love to give. We can’t wait to watch his personality blossom as he continues his recovery and second chance
Please note: Dennis is currently in foster care and is not yet available for applications while he completes his assessment. Any applications submitted at this stage will be void and removed from our database. Please keep an eye out for updates when Dennis is ready to find his forever home
