Burt – Now Adopted

Burt is a very loving boy that displays anxiety due to his back story of being left crated in a garage for long periods of time. In foster he has been able to roam freely and has enjoyed the freedom. He has started to play with toys and loves a bit of rough play as well as being groomed and generally fussed.

Burt came to us with very little positive human interaction and his foster parents have worked really hard to unravel this lads anxieties. Burt will sit and stay and understands to go to bed, leave and no.

He has met other dogs whilst out walking and can become over excited which isn’t always welcomed by other dogs but usually there is a quick sniff hello and then Burt walks on.

Dogs name:   Burt

Can live with children:  Dog savvy children aged 12 years and over

Can live with dogs:  No

Can live with cats:  No

Current location: Bracknell, Berkshire

Things to be aware of:

Burts anxiety has manifested itself into biting the front door and jumping to bite the lead when going for a walk. This behaviour is a mixture of anxiety and excitement, and this is how he deals with it. His foster family have patiently worked through a training programme with Burt and continue to do so.

This training must be followed in his new home, with guidance from the charity.

The ideal home:

Burt adores being outside so we will only consider a home where he as access to a garden. Burt has been around children whilst in foster, but he can get anxious and tense, especially if they are around his face so any children meeting Burt must be at least 12 years old and understand when dogs need space.

Other comments:

Burt hasn’t had the best start in life but with the training provided he is starting to relax and respond to his training. Because of the depth of his trauma, we wouldn’t be surprised if he takes a step backwards when he is 1st rehomed and any new owner will need to expect this and work with him.

It is essential Burt’s new owners understand what his requirements are, and they must be fully committed to working with him to avoid him having further upheavals in his life which will set him back.

In return, Burt will be the perfect companion.

Burt is neutered and will happily travel on the seat of a car (not in the boot) so we will consider the perfect home for him up to 4 hours from his current location in Bracknell, Berkshire.

Burt’s adoption fee is £400 and will need to be paid in full prior to him going home which will also be subject to a home check.
