Rita – Now Adopted!

We are super thrilled to let you now that Rita has gone home and to start her new life she has a new name – Pepper!

Yesterday Pepper was collected by Simon and Katie who took her home to join their family.

Pepper was such a good girl in the car, and soon she was being introduced to her new humans, and to Jarvis who is now her new BFF.

They spent nearly all day playing which made the transition for Pepper so much easier and today Pepper is showing her family just how loving she is.

Thank you so much for taking care of Pepper Karen, we know how much you loved her and what a wrench it was going to be after losing your girls last year but we really appreciate you jumping back into fostering and taking Pepper for us.

Pepper has now well and truly taken control of her new family’s hearts and they all adore her already.

So please join us in congratulating Simon, Katie and their family, on welcoming Pepper into their family.

Good luck in your new home Pepper, have the best time with Jarvis and we can’t wait to see what naughtiness and adventures you both get up to.

A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Rita is a typical bouncy excitable bulldog puppy.

She has the sweetest playful nature and adores being with people and dogs showering with them with love and affection.

She absolutely loves a game of bitey face with the resident bulldog, and cuddles and fuss from her humans.

Behaviour:

Rita is inquisitive and wants to be into everything, she will explore everything she can and will need to be supervised as she goes through the “chewing” phase of puppyhood.

Rita is playful she loves toys and will initiate play with both humans and dogs.

She is learning her commands and manners and is eager to please her humans.

She is cautious of the hoover and can be scared of lorries on the road but this has only happened once

Needs:

Rita needs an active family home, one with the time to continue her training and keep her involved in all that is daily family life.

Rita will benefit massively from a playful doggy companion, one that can keep up with her, help her learn boundaries and obviously play her favourite game of bitey face.

A garden is a must for this little girl.

Walk/exercise:

Rita loves her walks; she can get excited when putting on her collar/harness but is doing well when being told to sit.

Rita needs continued leash training; she just wants to explore everything around her and will cross over to sniff anything that catches her attention. She loves meeting new people and interacting with new dogs.

Toilet trained:

Rita has learnt to use a doggy door, but still has an accident on occasion, with a good toileting routine and positive reinforcement she will have this down in no time.

Can be left:

Rita can be left for up to 2 hours whilst crated, she may cry to start with but soon settles down and goes to sleep. As Rita gets older this time can be increased.

Preferably Rita will have a crate in her new home, this will help provide security and consistency.

Travel:

Rita can be a little anxious when in the car, but with reassurance and a couple bathroom breaks she will be fine. We will accept applications of up to 4 hours from her current location. We recommend using a seat restraint or crate while travelling.

Things to be aware of:

Rita will be spayed at around 18months old January 2025, and as such she will be going home on a “to be spayed” contract which will be undertaken at a vet of our choice with costs covered by the charity.

Rita will love children to fuss over and get attention from, but any young children in the home must be supervised, as she is a young girl and has the potential to knock children over and any owner with young children must take onboard and supervise Rita to prevent her chewing and swallowing small toys.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Any resident dog in the home must be spayed/neutered. Rita will not be rehomed with any entire dogs.

Additional information:

Rita is an incredible well rounded young girl, who stole the hearts of us all. She has been a pure joy to have in foster and will be the most amazing addition to any family. This little treasure is truly a rare gem who deserves to be adored and spoiled.

Rita’s adoption donation fee is £550 and will need to be paid in full prior to her going home which will also be subject to a home check.

A little of Rita’s story below,

Please welcome Rita the pocket rocket to our GBSR family!!

Lovely Rita is 22weeks old.

Unfortunately Rita’s owner relationship had broken down and left him having to move into a 3rd floor apartment and at such a young age that just isn’t suitable for Rita

Her owner refused to allow her to fall into the wrong hands to be used for breeding and came to us for help

Of course we couldn’t allow that either.

Rita has joined fellow adopted GBSR Reg the Ledge for her foster journey. She has bounced her way into foster head first and full of batteries. She is giving Reg a run for his money and took no time at all to find where the toys were kept!

Rita is in foster with Karen Dixon in the South East.

Please follow Rita on our Facebook Group but please don’t apply for her yet as she has a little while before she is ready for adoption.
