Winston – In Foster – South East
The introduction we are about to tell you will break your heart
Meet Winston
Winston is a 4 year old entire boy who was surrendered into our care yesterday. We were told the resident child had developed a phobia of him and, whilst these situations sadly do happen, we are always here to help with no judgement and no questions asked. However… nothing could have prepared us for the sight our lovely first-time foster, Jo, was met with when she arrived to collect him. Winston was tied to the decking stairs outside the home, his belongings placed beside him, waiting for his next journey. No goodbye routine. No explanation of his favourite toy, how he likes to sleep, or what comforts him when he’s scared. Nothing… just a goodbye text.
And sadly… that wasn’t even the heartbreaking part. After only knowing Jo for 15 minutes, Winston climbed into the car and left behind everything he had ever known
When they arrived at his foster home, Winston completely shut down. He sat outside the front door frozen in fear for around 40 minutes, unable to take those steps inside. In the end, Jo had no choice but to gently carry poor Winston indoors
He immediately ran into his crate. Later, when the back door was opened, Winston found a tiny bit of courage and bolted into the garden… where he remained for almost 4 hours, even in the rain. Scared. Confused. Heartbroken. Jo and her partner sat patiently with him all evening, never forcing him, never rushing him, simply letting him know that when he was ready, love was waiting for him
Eventually, they managed to gently guide him back inside, trembling like a leaf. After 8 long hours, Winston finally settled enough to fall asleep in his crate, where he is now snoring peacefully beside people who already adore him
Winston is already showing us he is a deeply sensitive soul, and right now our only priority is helping him learn that he is safe. One small step at a time, beautiful boy. Your new chapter starts here
Please do not ask or apply for Winston at this stage. He is currently decompressing in foster care and until we let you know he is ready to take the next steps, we do not accept any pre-interest applications for our dogs. If you’d like to follow Winston’s journey, head over to our community page
