A BIT ABOUT ME
Personality:
Sadie is a deeply affectionate and sensitive girl whose favourite thing in the world is being close to her people. She thrives on love and reassurance and enjoys being stroked all over. Once she forms a bond, she loves wholeheartedly and wants to spend as much time with her humans as possible.
She has a gentle, thoughtful nature, but she’s also a worrier. She has a busy mind and can overthink situations, meaning she sometimes needs her owner to guide and reassure her.
Despite her sensitive side, Sadie is full of life and surprisingly athletic for a bulldog. She enjoys a brisk, purposeful walk and naturally likes to keep moving rather than pottering along. She’s intelligent, eager to learn and has picked up basic commands with ease, even enjoying learning agility obstacles.
Behaviour:
Sadie is a bright, intelligent girl who loves to learn and thrives when she’s given the chance to use her clever mind. She already knows basic commands such as sit, paw, down and wait, and has even had a go at some agility obstacles!
While she’s eager to please, she’s much happier with calm, positive interactions than rough play, which she doesn’t enjoy or understand.
Overall, Sadie is as an intelligent dog who enjoys learning and responds well to positive, consistent training
Needs:
Sadie is looking for a calm, patient and understanding home where she can continue to grow in confidence. She can be a sensitive girl who takes comfort from routine and reassurance, so she’ll thrive with owners who are happy to let her settle at her own pace and continue the positive work her foster home has started.
Due to her dog reactivity, experience of managing reactive dogs would be a real advantage. While Sadie has successfully lived alongside a calm resident male bulldog following careful introductions, she would also be perfectly happy as the only dog in the home. She would not be suitable to live with cats.
We feel Sadie would be happiest in a home where any children are 8 years old and over that are calm and sensible who can respect her space. She loves both relaxing at home and heading out for purposeful walks, so she’s looking for a family who can offer the best of both worlds. A secure garden is essential, and because she enjoys having company
Walk/exercise:
Sadie is a wonderfully active and athletic bulldog who loves a good walk. She walks beautifully on the lead, doesn’t pull, and enjoys a purposeful power walk rather than a slow potter. She’s just as happy heading out for a decent countryside stroll as she is relaxing at home afterwards, and she has an excellent “off switch” once her exercise needs have been met.
Because she can be dog-reactive, her walks are currently best managed in quieter areas and by someone who is confident continuing the positive work her foster has started. She also travels brilliantly in the car, making her a lovely companion for days out and adventures.
Toilet trained:
Sadie is house trained and thrives on a consistent routine. Like many rescue dogs, she may have the occasional accident while settling into her new home, but with patience and a regular routine, she quickly gets back on track.
Travel:
**TRANSPORTING DURING WARMER WEATHER IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE CAR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE**
Sadie is a fantastic traveller and takes car journeys in her stride. She happily jumps into the car, settles quickly and travels calmly. Because of this we would consider homes up to 4 hours away from her foster home.
We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.
Things to be aware of:
Although she has grown in confidence since arriving in foster, she is still easily startled by unexpected noises or unfamiliar objects, so she will flourish in a calm, predictable home with patient owners who understand that confidence takes time to build.
As Sadie has recently undergone BOAS surgery, she will be going to her new home on a spay contract. This is to allow her sufficient time to fully recover before undergoing another procedure. She will be recalled by the rescue in November for her spay, which will be arranged in line with the terms of the adoption contract.
Sometimes bulldogs are excited to play but don’t realise size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as they have the potential to jump and knock children over.
Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.
Additional information from Sadie’s foster:
For anyone who’s followed Sadie’s story over the last couple of months, you’ll already know what a roller coaster of a journey she’s been on. There were several times where she very nearly didn’t make it…but this tough little cookie fought hard and here she is…not only surviving but thriving! And she’s now ready for the next chapter of her life. Sadie has her quirks, but she loves hard and she loves deep and I can’t think of a better way to sum her up than by saying she’s going to be a tough one to let go.
Sadie’s adoption donation fee is £500 and will need to be paid in full prior to her going home which will also be subject to a home check.
**Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. And the admin team are available for advice and support for the whole of that dog’s lifetime via Messenger, therefore the successful applicant will need to have an active Facebook and Messenger account for the life of the dog. If you cannot agree to this, please don’t apply**

Please give a warm welcome to the newest member of the GBSR family, Sadie.
Sadie has recently been surrendered by her family, who were sadly no longer able to keep her. We never judge those who reach out for help and are grateful that they contacted us, allowing us to ensure Sadie receives the care, support and stability she needs.
Sadie is a 3-year-old un-spayed girl who has understandably been showing signs of stress and anxiety since arriving in foster care. She has experienced a great deal of change in a short period of time, and it will take time for her to adjust. Thankfully, she is in the experienced and caring hands of her foster carer, Hilary, who is providing her with a safe, calm and loving environment where she can settle at her own pace. We are confident that, with patience and reassurance, Sadie will soon realise she is safe and surrounded by people who want the very best for her.
We would also like to extend a huge welcome and thank you to Hilary, who has opened her home to foster for the very first time. Alongside her resident dog, Coby, she is helping Sadie navigate this new chapter in her life. We are delighted to have them both as part of the GBSR fostering family and look forward to following their journey together.
Sadie is due to attend a health check this week, and we will keep everyone updated on her progress. Her first few nights have been unsettled, which is entirely understandable, but we are hopeful that she will soon begin to feel more comfortable and secure in her new surroundings.
Over the coming weeks, we will be getting to know Sadie better and assessing the type of forever home that will best meet her needs. At this stage, Sadie is not available for adoption, so please do not submit applications or enquiries just yet. We will let everyone know when she is ready to start her search for a forever family.
