A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Ava is a wonderfully affectionate, outgoing and characterful little girl who thrives on human companionship. She loves being the centre of attention and will happily greet everyone she meets, always hoping for a fuss, a cuddle, or a tummy tickle. She forms strong bonds with her people and has a gentle, loving nature that makes her a fantastic companion.

One of Ava’s most endearing traits is her sassiness. She isn’t shy about letting you know when she would like attention and will often grumble, chatter or softly bark to communicate with her people. Combined with her frequently hanging tongue and expressive face, she provides endless entertainment and affection.

Alongside her playful nature, Ava is an incredibly kind, relaxed and sensitive dog. She wants to please those around her and responds well to guidance. Her foster family describe her as having settled seamlessly into their home and routine, adapting almost immediately. She is well behaved, affectionate, funny and easy to live with, making her a truly special bulldog who will bring a huge amount of love and companionship to her forever home.

Behaviour:

Ava is a clever girl who enjoys interacting with her family and is very responsive to commands. Ava knows a range of basic cues including sit, wait, paw, down and speak, and she genuinely seems to enjoy engaging with people. Her foster family often comment on how attentively she listens when spoken to, giving the impression that she understands every word.

Ava also has a playful and cheeky side. She can become excitable during her daily “mad half hour,” usually later in the afternoon, when she enjoys energetic play and will paw at her humans or try to encourage other dogs to join in. This excitement is never confrontational and she settles well when given some quiet time and a toy to focus on.

Needs:

Ava is looking for a calm, loving home where she can be a valued member of the family and enjoy plenty of companionship. She has clearly thrived in foster and loves spending time with her people, but she also settles well when left alone for reasonable periods and has shown herself to be relaxed and well behaved when left in the home.

A secure garden is important for Ava, giving her a safe space to explore, relax and enjoy her surroundings.

Ava could potentially live as an only dog, where she can enjoy all the attention for herself, or with a calm, tolerant male dog who will respect her space. While she has integrated well with the dogs in her foster home, she can become excitable during play and can be a little possessive around toys, food and attention from her humans.

Above all, Ava needs a home that will appreciate her affectionate nature, her funny little quirks, and her desire to be involved in family life. In return, she will reward her new family with endless love, loyalty and companionship.

Walk/exercise:

Ava enjoys her walks and gets very excited when it’s time to head out, eagerly waiting for her harness to be put on. When walked on her own, she is a pleasure to take out, walking nicely on lead and responding well to commands such as sit and wait. She is attentive to her handler and enjoys exploring her surroundings at a steady pace.

Ava is best walked individually, as she can become overexcited when walking alongside other dogs and likes to be at the front of the group. In these situations she can pull on the lead, so her new family will need to continue her training and lead work when walking in a pack to help her remain calm and focused. Despite her enthusiasm, she shows no negative reactions to unfamiliar dogs when out and about, usually choosing to quietly observe them instead.

Exercise-wise, Ava is not a high-energy dog, but she enjoys regular walks combined with access to a secure garden where she can potter, explore and relax. Like many bulldogs, she also enjoys plenty of downtime and is happiest when her exercise is balanced with opportunities to rest and spend time with her people.

Toilet trained:

Ava is fully house trained and has been very clean in her foster home, with only one accident reported since arriving. She has established good toilet habits and generally prefers to toilet while out on her walks rather than in the garden.

Her new family should be aware that Ava does not typically ask to go outside, so regular opportunities to access the garden or go for walks will help maintain her routine. Overall, she has proven to be reliable in the home and has settled into a consistent toileting routine with ease.

Travel:

Ava is an excellent traveller and settles beautifully in the car. Her foster family were amazed by how calm and quiet she was from the very beginning, travelling without any fuss, panting, whining or restlessness. She simply relaxes and enjoys the journey.

She has shown herself to be comfortable and settled when travelling, making her an easy companion for trips out, whether that’s a short journey to the shops, a walk in a new location, or longer adventures with her family.

Because of this we would consider homes up to four hours from her foster home.

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

**TRANSPORTING DURING WARMER WEATHER IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE CAR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE**

Things to be aware of:

Her new family should also be prepared to continue her routine care, including keeping her facial folds clean and ensuring her neck area is dried after drinking to prevent irritation. Ava is currently doing very well on a pork and potato diet, and her family should continue to avoid chicken due to her reported allergy history.

Sometimes Ava is excited to play but doesn’t realise her size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as she has the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Additional information from Ava’s foster family:

Ava is the Princess of our home. She is the most loving little girl who will be the best companion to someone.

We can’t tell you how easily she adapted to our home and family, including Bruce and Reg.

She’s sassy and wants attention, but she’s also super loving and sensitive.

Ava is just perfect. She is so well behaved and just wants to please you. Even when we’ve had to sternly tell her off, she’s looked terribly disappointed in herself.

Ava’s adoption donation fee is £450 and will need to be paid in full prior to her going home which will also be subject to a home check.

Please give a warm welcome to our newest little girl… Ava

Beautiful Ava has sadly come into our care after being surrendered due to her owner becoming extremely unwell and no longer being able to give her the time she needed. She was very dearly loved, and we kindly ask that there is no judgement towards her family. We are always grateful that we can step in during difficult times like these.

Ava is a 4-year-old spayed girl with the most wonderful personality. She is settling beautifully into her foster home in the Midlands with first-time fosters Nikki and Dean, alongside her new foster brother Bruce, who is keeping her company.

A huge thank you to Nikki and Dean for opening your hearts and home to this sweet girl — we are incredibly grateful to you both.

Following a vet visit yesterday, Ava appears to be in overall good health. She does have a mild case of entropion affecting her eyelids, along with a possible skin issue that we will continue to monitor closely. Other than that, our lovely girl is showing just how loving, playful, and affectionate she truly is.

Please remember that we do not take pre-interest applications for our dogs. Any applications submitted for Ava before her official “applications open” post will not be valid. Ava is currently enjoying life in foster care.

Welcome to the family, Ava.
