A BIT ABOUT ME

Personality:

Toffee and Treacle are a bonded pair who may have very different personalities, but together they make the perfect team. Their contrasting characters complement each other beautifully, creating a partnership full of fun, companionship and affection.

Toffee is the life and soul of the party – a larger-than-life bulldog full of energy, enthusiasm and cheeky charm. She adores being involved in everything her people are doing and thrives on attention, affection and companionship. Confident, funny and full of personality, Toffee keeps everyone entertained with her mischievous antics and sassy attitude. She loves being close to her family and will happily follow them from room to room, making sure she never misses out on the action.

Treacle, on the other hand, is the calmer, gentler soul of the pair. She is a wonderfully affectionate and easy-going girl whose greatest joy is simply being close to the people she loves. Happy to quietly supervise daily life, Treacle is content to curl up beside you, enjoy a cuddle and soak up all the affection she can get. She has a calm and settled nature and asks for very little beyond love, companionship and a comfortable place to relax.

Together, they make a delightful duo. Toffee brings fun, laughter and endless entertainment, while Treacle offers quiet devotion, affection and unwavering companionship. Both girls adore people and love being part of family life, each showing their affection in their own unique way.

Whether it’s Toffee making everyone laugh with her antics or Treacle gently placing a paw on your leg for a fuss, these girls have a special way of working their way into your heart. They are loving, loyal and full of character, and together they would make wonderful companions for a family looking to welcome two very special bulldogs into their home.

Behaviour:

As a pair, Toffee & Treacle enjoy each other’s company and spend much of their day together, often choosing to rest alongside one another. However, they do occasionally need guidance and management around valued resources, particularly food, toys and attention. Their foster family have found that maintaining routines and providing clear boundaries helps them settle successfully and avoid any unnecessary disagreements.

Toffee is a bright and confident girl who appears to understand more than she chooses to show at times. While she has not demonstrated a reliable range of formal commands in foster, she will generally respond when asked to leave something and is capable of learning when motivated. Her foster family describe her as a little sassy and independent, so consistency and patience will be important.

Treacle currently knows how to sit and has good household manners. She will usually move away from things she is investigating when asked, although she can be somewhat selective in her response if something has caught her interest. She is a gentle, easy-going dog who responds well to calm guidance.

Toffee and Treacle have very different attitudes towards toys.

Toffee is the more playful of the two and particularly enjoys playing with balls. She loves interactive games and has plenty of energy when she’s in the mood for fun. She can become quite attached to toys and other high-value items, so any toys should be managed appropriately around other dogs. Toffee is enthusiastic in her play and certainly doesn’t hold back—her foster family discovered this when she quickly destroyed a supposedly indestructible soft toy.

Treacle has a much gentler approach to toys and shows only limited interest in them. She has a favourite soft giraffe toy that she likes to keep close and appears to find comfort in carrying or resting with it. Aside from this, she is generally more interested in spending time with her people than engaging in games. She may occasionally show some interest in a ball, but toys are not a major focus for her.

Needs:

Toffee and Treacle are looking for a calm, loving home where they can continue to enjoy the security, companionship and routine they have found in foster care. Both girls thrive on human interaction and enjoy being close to their people, making them best suited to a home where they will be included as valued members of the family.

A secure garden is important for the girls, providing a safe space to relax, potter about and enjoy the outdoors. Toffee particularly enjoys having space to run around and burn off energy, while Treacle is happier taking life at a slower pace and simply enjoying being outside with her family.

Both girls would benefit from owners who can continue providing structure, guidance and positive reinforcement. Toffee, in particular, will need clear boundaries and sensible management around high-value resources such as food, toys and attention, as she can be possessive at times. Feeding separately and supervising interactions around valued items will help them continue to thrive.

Treacle has some ongoing health needs which her new family must be prepared to manage. She currently requires daily eye medication and lubricant for dry eye, and her vision is affected by significant clouding. Her adopters will need to be committed to maintaining her eye care routine and monitoring her comfort. She may also require further veterinary support in the future relating to her eyes and breathing.

Toffee has ongoing skin issues that will require continued monitoring and management. Her adopters should be prepared to maintain any cleaning routines, dietary management and veterinary advice required to keep her comfortable and her skin in good condition.

Both girls enjoy companionship and settle well when left for short periods, but they would be happiest in a home where they are not regularly left for long hours. Most importantly, they need a family who will give them the love, patience and commitment they deserve, allowing them to continue building confidence and enjoying the happy, secure lives they are now experiencing.

Walk/exercise:

Toffee and Treacle both walk well on lead and have settled easily into their walking routine in foster care. They are comfortable walking together and as part of a larger group, remaining calm and easy to handle when out and about.

Toffee is the more active of the pair and enjoys making the most of her exercise. She loves getting out for walks, exploring new environments and having space to run around. Her playful nature means she benefits from opportunities to burn off energy and engage with her surroundings.

Treacle has a much gentler approach to exercise and is happy with a more leisurely pace. She enjoys her walks but does not seek out high levels of activity, preferring a relaxed stroll that allows her to take in the world around her.

Overall, the girls would enjoy a home that can provide regular walks alongside opportunities to spend time outdoors, ensuring both their physical and mental wellbeing are maintained.

Toilet trained:

Toffee & Treacle are mostly house trained but may need some continued support and routine in their new home. Treacle is generally clean overnight and does not toilet indoors frequently, although she has occasional accidents. Toffee is also mostly clean but can have the occasional wee indoors, particularly if left for longer periods.

Travel:

Both Toffee and Treacle travel very well in the car. They are calm, quiet passengers who settle easily for journeys and have shown no signs of stress or anxiety when travelling. Their foster family have reported no issues with car travel, making them easy companions for trips out and future adventures. Because of this we would consider homes up to four hours from their foster home.

We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.

**TRANSPORTING DURING WARMER WEATHER IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE CAR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE**

Things to be aware of:

Potential adopters should be aware that Toffee can be possessive of high-value resources such as food, toys and human attention. This is easily managed with sensible boundaries and supervision but should be taken into consideration when introducing routines in her new home.

Treacle has some ongoing health considerations, including reduced vision and dry eye requiring daily medication.

Treacle will be rehomed on a spay contract due to currently experiencing a phantom pregnancy. She will be recalled by the charity on 10th July for her spay procedure. The charity will contribute up to £350 towards the cost of a routine spay.

Sometimes Toffee & Treacle are excited to play but doesn’t realise Their size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as they has the potential to jump and knock children over.

Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Additional information from Toffee & Treacle’s foster family:

Toffee is without a doubt the funniest dog i’ve ever met. She makes us laugh every single day.  She is a zommie queen, loves chasing us around the garden and playing with a ball. She adores love and attention. She wants to be around you and follows you around wherever you go.  We will really miss her.

Treacle is adorable, she has one need, love, it is that simple. She will seek you out to sit with for company whatever you’re doing, she is number one supervisor! She wants her very own family to carry on the love she has been gratefully receiving. We will be sad to see her go.

Toffee & Treacle’s adoption donation fee is £800 and will need to be paid in full prior to them going home which will also be subject to a home check.

At the start of this week, two beautiful girls arrived into our care with truly heartbreaking stories.

Please welcome 5-year-old Treacle and 5-year-old Toffee to the Geordie Bullies family.

The girls were handed over to local kennels by their owner after supposedly needing to move house and being unable to take them along. However, we have since learned they had been living outside in kennels, and after seeing the condition they arrived in, we sadly believe there is far more to their story.

Treacle and Toffee have now joined Bonita and her family in the Midlands, where they are slowly beginning to experience the comfort, warmth, and safety of a real home environment. Unsurprisingly, both girls arrived extremely stressed and overwhelmed, and it may even be their first time properly living inside a family home. Everything is new to them — the people, the love, the routine, the comfort — but with patience, reassurance, and plenty of TLC, they are already beginning to settle beautifully.

The girls especially love spending time in the garden and have been happily sharing their space, under supervision, with the resident dogs. Watching them slowly relax and start to feel safe has already been incredibly emotional.

We were very concerned about both girls’ health, so they visited the vets yesterday for full health checks.

Treacle is suffering from severe dry eye and mild entropion. Her eyes were checked for ulcers, but sadly the cloudiness appears to be scarring caused by her condition being left untreated for far too long. We were also concerned about her breathing, and she may require BOAS surgery, although she will need further assessments to determine the severity and whether surgery will definitely be needed.

Toffee’s skin is currently red, sore, and extremely yeasty. She has now been prescribed medication to help get her skin and allergies under control and, with the right treatment and lots of love, we are hopeful she will soon begin feeling far more comfortable and happy.

It is also heartbreakingly clear that both girls have previously been used for breeding. From their condition and the circumstances they came from, we believe they may have spent much of their lives being used to produce puppies for profit before being discarded as though they meant nothing.

But that life is behind them now.

Treacle and Toffee, welcome to your Geordie Bullies family. From this day forward, you will only ever know love, safety, comfort, and kindness. We cannot wait to watch you both heal, thrive, and finally enjoy the happy lives you have always deserved.
