A BIT ABOUT ME
Personality:
Dougie is a confident, affectionate and larger-than-life character who loves being around his people. He is a real people-dog and actively seeks out cuddles, fuss and attention. He enjoys meeting new people and other dogs and is very happy being involved in whatever his family is doing.
He is also determined and cheeky and isn’t afraid to push his luck when he has decided he wants something. He can be quite stubborn and will need owners who are confident with boundaries and consistent with his training.
Dougie is a wonderfully clumsy, goofy boy with a big personality. His foster family describes him as a bit of a “doggy battering ram” who can bring plenty of laughter to the household. He has settled into family life remarkably quickly and has shown himself to be an affectionate, fun-loving and genuinely lovable bulldog.
Overall, Dougie is a happy, confident goofball who loves life and loves his people. With continued training and clear boundaries, he has all the makings of a fantastic family companion.
Behaviour:
Dougie knows several basic commands and is generally good with “sit”, including sitting for his meals. He understands “wait”, although food can be a big distraction for him and he can struggle to hold his position when excited. He responds to “down” and will get off when asked, although he can be quick to forget and repeat the behaviour. He also understands “leave” in most situations, but this will need continued work around food. His recall is currently an area that needs further training.
Dougie enjoys playing and responds well to a bit of rough-and-tumble. He has a fun, playful nature and enjoys interacting with others. His play should continue to be encouraged with clear boundaries so that it remains appropriate and controlled.
Needs:
Dougie would benefit from plenty of mental stimulation alongside his physical exercise, as he is an intelligent and determined boy who enjoys having something to focus on. Short, consistent training sessions and activities that encourage him to think would help keep him engaged.
He will need a family who can provide clear, consistent routines and expectations, particularly during the early stages of settling into his new home. He is likely to thrive when he knows what is expected of him and receives praise for getting things right.
It would also be beneficial for his new family to continue exposing him to a variety of everyday experiences in a positive way, as he enjoys being involved and going on adventures. He would suit owners who are prepared to make him part of their everyday lives
Walk/exercise:
Dougie is a good walker who generally walks nicely on lead without pulling. He enjoys going out and is happy walking alongside the resident dogs with no issues reported.
He appears to enjoy an active lifestyle and is comfortable being out and about with his family. He has regularly accompanied his foster family on trips to work, so he is used to combining walks and outings with everyday activities.
His recall is still an area that needs further development, so off-lead exercise should only be considered once this has been properly worked on and he can be trusted to return reliably. Overall, Dougie would suit a reasonably active home that enjoys getting out and about with their dog.
Dougie has been very good when meeting unfamiliar dogs while out. He is happy to say hello but is equally content to simply carry on with his walk if there is no interaction. His foster family has not witnessed any difficulties or concerning reactions towards other dogs in public.
Toilet trained:
Dougie is house trained and has had no issues with toileting indoors. However, he is currently a marker and has marked various things around the home. This is something his new family will need to be aware of and continue to manage.
Travel:
Dougie travels very well and is relaxed in the car. He is comfortable travelling in a crate in the boot or secured with a doggy seat belt on the front seat. He can also settle on the back seat, although he may move into the passenger footwell.
He regularly travels with his foster family and enjoys going out on adventures, so car journeys are not something that appears to worry him. Because of this we will consider homes up to 4 hours away from his foster home
We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.
Things to be aware of:
One thing to be aware of is that Dougie can be quite determined when he has his mind set on something. He may test boundaries and doesn’t always readily accept being told “no”, so his new owners will need to be consistent and not give in when he decides he wants his own way.
He is also frightened of the hoover and broom, so these may need to be introduced gradually and positively.
Dougie is a very enthusiastic boy and can sometimes be clumsy and unaware of his size, so his new family should be mindful of this, particularly when he is excited. Overall, there are no significant behavioural concerns reported by his foster family.
Sometimes Dougie is excited to play but doesn’t realise his size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as he has the potential to jump and knock children over.
Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

What can we say about this boy. He is a handsome, loving and confident boy, who loves life. He has brought huge smiles to our faces with his character, and his clumsiness. Dougie is very affectionate, and loves being with his owners. He is a goofball, that with continued training will make his new family so happy to have him in their lives. We are going to miss him hugely.
Dougie’s adoption donation fee is £450 and will need to be paid in full prior to him going home which will also be subject to a home check.
**Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. And the admin team are available for advice and support for the whole of that dog’s lifetime via Messenger, therefore the successful applicant will need to have an active Facebook and Messenger account for the life of the dog. If you cannot agree to this, please don’t apply**

Dougie’s Story
Please welcome #Dougie into the arms of the Springboard Family!
Dougie is a handsome little lad who was found wandering the streets as a stray. After serving his 7-day stray hold in kennels, we were asked if we could take him into our care, and of course, our answer was yes.
Yesterday, Dougie was collected by the wonderful Sherrill and has now safely arrived at his foster home with Andy in the South East, where he is already settling in really well.
A huge thank you to both Sherrill and Andy for stepping forward to help this boy when he needed it most. We simply couldn’t do what we do without the incredible volunteers who open their homes and hearts to dogs like Dougie.
As Dougie has only just arrived, we don’t know a great deal about him yet. He is booked in for his full veterinary health check tonight, where he will be thoroughly examined and we can hopefully learn a little more about our handsome new arrival, including any medical needs that may require our attention.
Please remember that Dougie has only just entered foster care, so he is not available for adoption at this time. His foster family will need time to get to know him, allow him to settle into his new surroundings and help us understand his personality, behaviour and needs.
We’ll share updates as Dougie settles in and begins to show us the wonderful personality hiding behind those beautiful eyes.
