Personality:
Princess is a little sweetheart with a gentle, loving nature. She absolutely adores people and is happiest when she is receiving attention, often rolling over for a tummy rub at every opportunity.
She can become excited when meeting new people, but with some calm reassurance and guidance she settles nicely and will happily sit or lie beside them. She is eager to please and generally very easy-going, taking things in her stride and adapting well to her surroundings.
She is not a nervous girl, although she can be a little wary in certain situations and will look to her person for reassurance. Overall, Princess is a loving, gentle soul who simply wants to be with her people and be part of the family.
Behaviour:
Princess has some lovely manners and responds well to guidance. She knows several commands including sit, down and stay, understands “no” and is particularly good with “leave”, happily leaving things when asked. She is generally quiet in the home and is not bothered by household noises such as the hoover. If she becomes over-excited, she can sometimes hump, but this can usually be stopped with a verbal command.
Princess is very good when it comes to grooming and being cleaned. Her foster family is able to bathe her, clean her face and wrinkles, trim her nails and clean all areas of her body without difficulty. Her ears can be sensitive due to previous ear problems, and she may try to avoid the ear drops, but she still allows her foster family to clean her ears. She has a weekly medicated bath and daily wrinkle cleaning, which she accepts very well.
Needs:
Princess would be best suited to a loving, settled family home where she can have plenty of companionship and become part of everyday family life. She needs a secure garden and a family who can provide regular walks and continue working with her around other dogs and chasing distractions.
Princess would be happiest as the only pet in the home, with no other animals. She could live happily with children and would also suit an adult-only home. She needs people who will be patient, consistent and reassuring, while continuing the positive training she has already started.
Walk/exercise:
On walks, Princess can pull initially but becomes much gentler and stops pulling after a while. She can react to dogs that bark at her, responding by barking and pulling towards them, so this is an area that will need continued training and sensible management. She has also shown a strong interest in chasing cats and squirrels.
Princess can be a little reactive when meeting unfamiliar dogs. If another dog is calm and doesn’t bark at her, she is generally fine and can walk past with some distraction from her handler. However, if a dog barks at her, she will bark back and can pull or launch herself towards them. She will therefore need careful management around other dogs and continued training to help her learn to remain calm when passing them.
Toilet trained:
Princess is fully house trained and has not had any accidents in her foster home. She even understands the command “wee wee” and will go when asked.
Travel:
Princess travels very well in the car. She travels in the boot and may be excited and jump around initially, but once the car is moving, she settles down nicely. She enjoys travelling and has no problems getting in the car or during journeys. Because of this we will consider homes up to four hours from her foster home.
We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.
Things to be aware of:
One of the main things Princess’s new family will need to be prepared for is maintaining her daily care routine. She needs a strict diet due to her skin and previous bladder issues, along with her weekly medicated bath and daily face and wrinkle cleaning. Consistency with this routine is important to help keep her skin under control.
She can also be quite determined about getting onto the sofa or going upstairs, so her new family will need to be consistent with household boundaries and continue the training she has already responded well to. She does best in a calm environment and may look to her person for reassurance if there is shouting or raised voices.
Sometimes Princess is excited to play but doesn’t realise her size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as she has the potential to jump and knock children over.
Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.

Princess’s adoption donation fee is £450 and will need to be paid in full prior to her going home which will also be subject to a home check.
**Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. And the admin team are available for advice and support for the whole of that dog’s lifetime via Messenger, therefore the successful applicant will need to have an active Facebook and Messenger account for the life of the dog. If you cannot agree to this, please don’t apply**

Princess’s Story
Meet the beautiful Princess.
Princess holds a very special place in GBSR’s history as our 750th rescue. It should have been a celebration, but instead, her journey with us has begun with heartbreak.
Princess was surrendered due to changes in her family’s personal circumstances. We kindly ask that there is no judgement. Sometimes life changes in ways that are beyond our control, and the most important thing is that her family made the incredibly difficult decision to ensure she would be safe and properly cared for.
The moment we received the call, our wonderful volunteers Sherill and Andy didn’t hesitate. They collected Princess immediately, giving her somewhere safe to stay before she made the journey to her long-term foster home with the amazing Julie in the South East.
From the moment she arrived, it was clear that Princess wasn’t well.
Yesterday, she had her first veterinary examination, and the results were far from what we had hoped.
Princess has blood in her urine and a painful urinary tract infection. She is also suffering from diarrhoea, a chronic ear infection and painful skin that requires ongoing treatment. She also has entropion, a painful eyelid condition that will require surgery in the future.
Princess is now on pain relief, a prescription urinary diet and medicated skin treatment. She will return to the vets on Friday for an extensive urine work-up so that we can establish exactly what is going on and ensure she receives the appropriate treatment.
Despite everything she has been through, Princess has done nothing but wag her tail.
She leans in for cuddles, follows her foster mum around the house and still finds the energy to show off her cheeky little personality. She is simply the sweetest girl, and it is heartbreaking to think she may have been living with this level of discomfort for some time.
Today, we’re asking for your help.
Princess’s veterinary bill already stands at £785, and this is only the beginning. We expect her treatment costs to reach around £2,000 as her investigations and ongoing care continue.
Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards Princess’s care, including veterinary investigations, medication, prescription urinary food, medicated shampoo and ear treatment, ongoing treatment and, eventually, surgery for her entropion.
She may be our 750th rescue, but to Princess, she isn’t a number.
She is a little girl who is finally safe, surrounded by people who care about her, and now she needs all of us to help give her the care and comfort she deserves.
