A BIT ABOUT ME
Personality:
Chunk is a very loving, affectionate and people-focused young boy who simply wants to be involved in everything his family is doing. He loves attention and cuddles and will happily follow his people around all day.
Chunk can be a little stubborn and very excitable, and is still learning how to manage that excitement, but he is a clever boy who is making great progress.
He is very social and loves meeting people, often approaching everyone hoping for some attention. He really enjoys being around people and seems to think everyone he meets is a potential new friend. He loves receiving fuss and affection and is always happy to say hello, making him a very friendly and outgoing boy.
Behaviour:
Chunk’s behaviour is generally very manageable, but he is still learning to control his excitement. He can become over-stimulated at certain times, particularly around leaving the house, and may need to be redirected and given a moment to calm himself. He can also be persistent once he has decided he wants to do something, so consistency and clear boundaries will be important.
Chunk is generally a very friendly, affectionate and playful young dog. As he is still very young, he can become over-excited and this can lead to play biting, particularly around feet and shoes. He does not mean any harm, but due to his size and strength, this behaviour can sometimes be difficult to manage.
Chunk will need ongoing training in this area to help him learn more appropriate ways to manage his excitement and play. He would benefit from a calm and consistent approach, clear boundaries and continued work on helping him settle when he becomes over-stimulated. His foster has already seen improvements in his behaviour, and with continued training, patience and guidance, we are confident that he will continue to mature and learn.
Needs:
Chunk would benefit from a home that can continue to provide him with structure, routine and plenty of guidance as he matures. He is still a young dog and will need owners who are patient and committed to continuing his training and helping him develop into the best version of himself.
A calm home environment would suit him well, as too much excitement can contribute to him becoming over-stimulated. He would also benefit from people who can recognise when he needs time to settle and encourage him to rest.
He is also be better suited to a home with older, dog-savvy children who are able to understand his excitable nature and respect his boundaries.
Walk/exercise:
Chunk walks well on both a collar and harness and generally enjoys getting out and about. He has no issues when walking and was also reported to be great when attending a Bulldog walk. He can be a little stubborn at times and may decide he has had enough or wants to go in a different direction, but he can usually be encouraged with treats.
Chunk enjoys being active and playful and would benefit from regular walks and opportunities to get out and explore.
Chunk is very friendly when meeting other dogs and is generally very keen to say hello and play. He can be quite enthusiastic and is probably a little over-friendly, so he is still learning that not every dog wants to interact with him. If another dog is not receptive to him, Chunk responds well to their signals, jumping back and giving them space rather than becoming confrontational. He has been particularly good when around groups of dogs, including at a Bulldog walk.
Toilet trained:
Chunk is fully house trained. He has had no accidents in the house while in foster care. His foster family uses the phrase “pee pee” when asking him to toilet.
Travel:
Chunk has come a long way with travelling. He was quite stressed during his first car journey when he was collected, as it was likely a new experience for him. He is now much more settled, and travels attached to a seatbelt, with his foster mum sitting beside him for reassurance. He can still be a little unsure about how to settle comfortably, but he will lie against his foster mum during the journey. He now seems to associate the car with exciting places and will often stop at the car and refuse to continue walking because he wants to get in!
Because of this we would consider homes up to four hours from his foster home.
We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.
Things to be aware of:
Chunk is still very much a young dog and will need continued training, consistency and guidance as he matures.
He can struggle to settle when he becomes overtired, so encouraging regular rest and downtime will be important. He is very people-focused and likes to be involved in everything his family is doing, so an owner who enjoys having a dog that wants to be part of family life would suit him well.
He can be quite persistent when he has decided what he wants to do, so patience and positive reinforcement will work better than confrontation. His excitement levels can build quickly, so recognising his early signs of becoming overstimulated will help prevent behaviours from escalating.
He has shown some interest in chasing cats, so a home with cats would not be recommended based on his current behaviour.
He currently has a couple of hot spots and an interdigital cyst that will need monitoring.
Due to his age, Chunk will be going home on a neuter contract and will be recalled in October to have this completed.
As a charity, we contribute up to £250 towards the cost of a basic neuter.
Sometimes Chunk is excited to play but doesn’t realise his size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as he has the potential to jump and knock children over.
Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.
Additional information From Chunks foster family:
Chunk is truly amazing and has completely stolen my heart, as well as everyone else’s in my family. He is the most loving and affectionate big boy and just loves everyone he meets.
He is the perfect house guest and has never had any accidents in the house. He is, however, a bit of a shoe thief, so they need to be kept out of sight and maybe wear your old ones around him for a little while!
Chunk truly deserves to find a family who will love him as much as he will love them. Even though he’s a big boy, he is still very much a baby so is still learning. He is very clever and I’m sure with more training, patience and love he grow to be the very best version of himself because he is practically there. He really is a special boy and whoever gets to call him theirs will be very lucky.
It’s been an absolute pleasure being part of his journey and he will always hold a piece of our heart’s.
Chunk’s adoption donation fee is £500 and will need to be paid in full prior to him going home which will also be subject to a home check.
**Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. And the admin team are available for advice and support for the whole of that dog’s lifetime via Messenger, therefore the successful applicant will need to have an active Facebook and Messenger account for the life of the dog. If you cannot agree to this, please don’t apply**

Chunk’s Story
Please give a warm welcome to Chunk to the Geordie Bullies family.
Sadly, Chunk’s family made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him into our care, selflessly putting his needs before their own emotions. They have loved and adored Chunk since he was a puppy, making this an incredibly difficult decision for them.
When they welcomed Chunk into their lives, they had no previous experience with bulldogs and have found themselves struggling to meet his needs. As always, we kindly ask that there is no judgement. This has been an emotional and heartbreaking decision for his family, and we are incredibly grateful that they trusted us to support them through it.
We hope it brings them some comfort knowing that Chunk will always be loved, cherished and receive the care he deserves.
Over the weekend, Chunk was collected by his wonderful foster parents, Leanne and Daryl, and has now begun his foster journey in Scotland.
As expected, after leaving behind everything he has ever known, Chunk needed a couple of days to begin settling in. With plenty of patience, love and gentle reassurance, he is now finding his paws and settling in beautifully. He has even earned himself a new nickname… ‘Chunk the Hunk’!
