A BIT ABOUT ME
Personality:
Neil is a wonderfully loving gentle and endearing boy who just wants to be wherever his people are. He is a true Velcro dog who loves nothing more than leaning against you, climbing onto your lap as though he’s a tiny Chihuahua, and settling in for a cuddle. He is lively, affectionate and always on the lookout for either his next snack or his next cuddle, preferably both!
There is something incredibly special about Neil. He has the sweetest nature and loves being included in whatever is going on around him, whether that’s sitting by the window watching the world go by or snuggling up when he’s ready for bed. His beautiful puppy-dog eyes are hard to resist, and his tiny tail gives the cutest little wags when he hears “good boy”. He really is a gentle giant with a kind soul and a huge amount of love to give.
Behaviour:
Neil enjoys his toys, although he is still discovering his playful side! He has occasional little bursts of madness where he suddenly decides it’s time to play, which his foster family have loved seeing. He particularly enjoys a teddy to suckle on when he is feeling sleepy and doesn’t become possessive or protective over his toys. He is still learning how to play with people and other dogs, but it’s lovely to see him discovering these things at his own pace.
Neil is generally very easy to groom and clean. He is happy to be wiped down and washed, and he particularly seems to enjoy having his ears cleaned. He can be a little hesitant when having his back end wiped, so this needs to be done patiently, and his feet can sometimes be a little sensitive when they are irritated. Overall, grooming and cleaning are straightforward with him.
Neil isn’t particularly interested in rough or boisterous play and prefers a gentler approach. He enjoys being fussed over and having plenty of affection, rather than getting involved in overly energetic games. He is happy to interact with his people in a calm and gentle way and will happily come over for attention and a cuddle.
Needs:
Neil needs a home where he can feel included and have plenty of company. He enjoys being close to his people and can struggle if left alone for too long, so his time on his own will need to be kept short and his settling routine continued.
He will need someone who can continue working on his recall and lead manners. His love of food also means sensible management will be important, as he is a determined little scavenger and can quickly help himself to anything within reach!
Neil would benefit from continued gentle training and consistency. He is clever and knows his basic commands, but he can have a stubborn streak and sometimes needs a little encouragement to do what is being asked. His new family will also need to be mindful of his tendency to bark at people passing the window or knocking at the door.
He enjoys his home comforts and likes having his own safe space, happily sleeping in his open crate. Most importantly, Neil needs plenty of love, companionship and the chance to enjoy being part of a family. After everything he has experienced, it is lovely to see him discovering how good life can be, and he deserves plenty more happy experiences ahead.
Neil hasn’t lived with children during his time in foster, so this hasn’t been directly tested. However, his foster family feel he would likely be comfortable living with children and have not identified any concerns around his temperament towards them. He can be excitable when greeting people and may jump up, so this would need to be considered around younger children due to his size. He is otherwise a gentle and affectionate boy who enjoys human company.
Walk/exercise:
Neil walks well on the lead once he is out and settled. He can get very excited when the front door first opens, so a secure grip is important when setting off. He walks happily both on his own and alongside other dogs.
He does love to stop and investigate interesting smells, particularly when walking in a group, and can become completely absorbed in a scent. Overall, though, he is an enjoyable boy to walk and has made lovely progress during his time in foster.
Neil is generally very relaxed when encountering unfamiliar dogs in public. He doesn’t appear particularly interested when passing other dogs and has had no difficulties with dogs he meets while out. He is happy to continue his walk and generally remains calm and easy-going around other dogs.
Toilet trained:
Yes, Neil is a good boy
Travel:
Neil is generally very good when travelling and appears to enjoy car journeys. He can occasionally try to chew things while in the car, so his lead should be kept out of reach. His foster family find that giving him a toy and a blanket to suckle on helps keep him settled and occupied during the journey. Because of this we will consider homes up to four hours away from his foster home
We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs.
Things to be aware of:
Neil’s feet can sometimes become irritated, and he can be a little wriggly when they need cleaning, although he is generally very good about being handled.
Neil is extremely food motivated and has developed quite a talent for scavenging! Anything edible within reach is likely to disappear quickly, so food and bins will need to be kept safely out of his reach.
We have been advised that his two lower canine teeth may need to be removed in the future, so this is something his new family should be aware of.
Sometimes Neil is excited to play but doesn’t realise his size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as he has the potential to jump and knock children over.
Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted.
Additional information from Neil’s foster family:
Be prepared for your heart to melt, Neil’s eyes are the definition of puppy dog eyes. He is the biggest baby with the warmest heart. He just wants to be looked after and cuddled up next to you. After such a hard start in life, this is what he deserves. Once you meet Neil, he will quickly become your best friend.
Neil’s adoption donation fee is £400 and will need to be paid in full prior to him going home which will also be subject to a home check.

Neil’s Story
Please welcome Neil into the arms of our Springboard family.
Neil is a 6-year-old entire boy who was found as a stray. As always, we couldn’t leave him without somewhere safe to go, so we stepped in and brought him into our care.
Neil has now gone into foster with Jessica and her family in Yorkshire. A huge thank you to Jessica for coming forward to help this boy and give him a safe place to land.
On initial glance, we don’t have too many concerns for Neil aside from needing some usual TLC, but we’ll of course get him booked in with our vets for a full health check and his neuter.
For now, Neil can settle into foster, enjoy some home comforts and start getting the love and attention he deserves.
Please give a huge welcome to Neil. You’re safe now, handsome boy.
